yes but I've never done anything with it as far as recording it, writing it down, etc.

when i was 17 about five years ago i dreamt i was sitting next to freddie mercury at the piano and he wrote this beautiful, haunting melody for me and told me to take it and i'd have a huge success with it... but when i woke up it was gone. i also had a dream recently that was accompanied by this strange music video where all the colours were orange and blue. it was a great song but again i forgot it. i need to start remembering this stuff.

before i went to sleep, i prayed to God to help me with music. when i went asleep, i dreamed up the sound of the music. it was mostly horns and it was funky and good(imho).

many a times, i have pictured me and prince working together. he wuld be the pianist and i would be the singer wearing expenisve, regal clothing.

sometimes, i see images in my head and i just write lyrics to them.

I dreamt my very first song.
In my dream it was a Wendy & Lisa song.
It was in the time I still kept a dream diary, so I wrote it all down and then realised this was not on their then only album.
Silly huh?

Absolutely!

Funny you ask...

Its happened to me probably about 10 times...full, rich, orchestrated songs/works of music (incredible stuff at least in the dream)

I've awakened KNOWING that I had the song that would change the world, only to have them peed away like yamomma alluded to, while in the john.

I don't think I've ever been able to "hold on" to those incredible jewels into the waking realm, but remember, they ARE there, they ARE inside you.

stupid spellings...

Yep, and I wrote it down after I woke up. But I always wondered whether it was a song I heard sometime somewhere and my subconscious had just repeated it back to me. I have a couple songs that I've written that I'm sure I've heard before but don't know when or where. And then I've written at least two or three songs that had parts I heard in other songs on the radio AFTER I had written them. That's kind of frustrating... having to tell your friends that you didn't steal an idea, but that it was originally yours.

I get a lot of song ideas just from daydreaming. I hear the music in my head, and then I go to my piano and start putting it down. One time this happened in high school in the middle of class, I wrote it down the best I could, got home and recorded it.

I think this is why I like the movie Amadeus so much. Mozart's one of these types also.

No. I dream in sequences when it comes to music. Never whole songs.

concordance

I've had several dreams of hearing an entire album side worth of songs that didn't exist, but were (in the dream) by Prince, elton John, lennon, etc., as well as other songs that just sound awesome and often dissapear before we are fully awake.

I've also had the same occurrence as Jasziah -- hearing things on the radio that sound like they came out of one of your songs!

If u dream music and feel too tired to get up and actually lay down the trax, try keeping a microcassette recorder (or notebook) near your bed. Sing the parts out into your recorder while still neither here nor there.

There was one dream I had. Im not a country music fan at all, but this particular country tune had this old man crying out about the love of something!!! I couldnt see the man, only cheaply animated B&W moving cartoons.

I cannot tell what it was, but I woke up CRYING. Tears ran down when i woke up. I dont have a guitar, but I did record a lil' melody of what it might have been
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I always dream music. But I forget it the next morning. I can remember the feeling it gave me, but the actual tune always escapes me. Occassionally I'll get up in the middle of the night and try to scribble something down, but as soon as I try to concentrate. Pop!. There it goes out the window again. (Damn). Other times when I do get it written down, the next morning when I try to play it again I realise that it's really similar to something else, (usually a Prince or Miles Davis tune) so I give up and eat my breakfast!.

I can't help but notice the similarities that we are all sharing (great tune - forgot it, ect). I think this is really interesting subject - I'd love to actually do some real "study" about it! Maybe that's the real secret to great artists, that they can tap into the dream/subconsious mind and pull out things that in the real world are just impossible to imagine.

Are there any visual artists out there (painting, movies ect) that have similar experiences?

I've been able to write a few things down and record them, but just snippets and ideas. I could never take dictation from my dreams. They fade so fast like regular dreams. sad
