[Edited 8/8/07 19:48pm] Google, dude, it's your friend. Better friend yet, youtube, it has video guitar lessons. Then, one more bit of advice, 6 hours fucking around on the guitar does not practice make. To use this analogy, it's like walking around a gym for 6 hours rather than using the equipment.

Gotcha, dude! I won't even argue with you. I will tell you that I get bored, quick. Playing scales from my scales sheet would probably do me the best, but, hell, I know some from heart that I have worked on, but, shit ain't comfortable, yet. Yeah, I know. "KEEP TRYING!!!!" Well, you know. "BULLSHIT!," yet I still do, anyway. So..... [Edited 8/9/07 13:05pm]

Not lookin for arguments, just adding my When I started I found it a challenge to try to listen to the radio and figure out every song as it came on. While I wasn't right on every tune, I did find the key so it kind of sounded right. The other thing is that scale runs, arpegio runs and the excercise part are critical to practice everyday, sometimes you hit a wall or are feeling like you're not going anywhere. Pay somebody with a good teacher reputation to give you some lessons. It doesn't mean that you have to stick with the person for a year or anything but sometimes just talking to someone with experience and a guitar in your hands will change your perspective. edit -I've been playing for a long time and I still make it a point to do this. Why would I chew you up over wanting to quit? That's on you. The world is full of quitters with instruments collecting dust in their basements. Be original and see something thru, if you love music the way I do that and persistence is all it takes. It's also the difference between a listener and a musician, it takes work and some people are just too fuckin lazy. I need the funk everyday, I need the drummer to give me some and more importantly I also have to pay my bills. So I'll be practicing at 10 PM when the works done, then I'll be mixing the last band rehearsal until 1 AM. The choice is yours everyday to get up or lay in bed. If you want to lay there, don't be wasting my time.

In fact I don't really know that many people who understand my music obsession full stop! I was chatting to the missus the other day about listening to music and really listening to music...I take a track and can listen to it over and over, from different angles, perspectives, just focusing on what the drummer is doing for example, or the bass player etc etc..and I always enjoy. There's so much more to pull out of great pieces of music, I think alot of the richness of it goes over alot of people's heads! Don't even get me going on the mix and how many times I can mix something with tweaks that only cats hear. Going over a lot of people's heads is what I have to be reminded of when trying to get the band playing gigs, I'm super critical but people with a few beers in them don't care. They just want the next song they can sing along with. "Do you guys know Freebird?" (where's Beau Hall on this? )

Oh yeah, my woman loves me but the band and practicing takes time away from her and she'll always be getting use to that.
