Would this be considered a guilty pleasure?

The fact that the distortion sparks my interests better than clean effects on my guitar amplifier is kind of bothering me. It's like I feel as if I am relying on the electric sound to take me into overdrive. I almost always turn the distortion right back off after I turn it on. Playing clean feels like something obligatory and I don't know why. It's like taboo for me to enjoy the distorted sound more, and I can't help it. Is anyone else like this?

Well, I play indie rock, so I enjoy distorted guitar sounds. But I mix it up, use dynamics as well as clean tones. I like when players can get a "controlled" distortion rather than just white noise. It depends on the song too. I love Weezer style. Also, listen to Prince in the song Shocadelica. In the chorus he does this sick rambling distortion and its kept in the background, but oh so sweet!

What equipment do you have? I'm limited to this amplifier that came with my guitar in a deal package. The total of which, all-together, ended up costing about $200 and that's it. So, it was quite cheap. I'm guessing you've upgraded far from me. smile
