Killing guitar Distortion

Hey guys i need some guitar tips for killing distortion on a wave,
im remixing and remastering some old songs, and trying my damnest to get rid of the guitar hum which is loud as hell,
ive tried apps like Sound Soap and noise gates, but nothing really works well
and i can never get rid of it completely.
I don't really want to re-record but its looking like im g oing to have to...

Current noise reducers can do this job quite well. Gates are pretty much useless for these kind of applications. It's best to re-record everything though. Try to set up the distortion so that it won't produce hum in the first place and back away from the computer monitor (or switch it off). Less is often more in the final mix too, because the distortion will cut through better on a rock song if its not that extreme.

see thats the thing, other songs ive done were rock songs, and the distortion complimented it
But im trying to kill it cause the song is really and RnB song with rock influences ala Prince
and i really got the tone great which is like Guns and roses meets prince...
but i also have the hum of a heavy metal rock song
which doesn't sound too hott over a Rnb acompanaiment, which is pristine clean
Fuck i wish i could talk to Prince's techs cause they do a helluva job stripping away his guitar hum without killing his tone

but thnx nov, i guess im gonna have to re-record

Oh. I see. I used to make the same thing years ago, yeah it was a problem. Prince has noise suppressors and feedback eliminators direct in the chain, plus knowing the quality of his pickups (even the hohner is modded) it shouldn't be such a big deal. I used myself an analog direct recording device called the Hughes & Kettner Tubeman, which for home use recorded better than any miked up amp (mind you, some of those digital amp modeler things can produce a lot of hum as well, as they are all so cheaply designed).

I'm doing mostly digital stuff (digital guitar plug ins) so do you know of any good digital noise suppressors
cause its gonna be a problem if a rerecord too
cause im using a Fat strat with a Vai humbucker, so it's extremely hott
and if i use metal settings its gonna cut right through the mix!
