Artists who remix I need your help with something.

how do you calculate the tempo to a song? I'm entering in a remix contest where you remix Eminem's "Jimmy Crack Corn" song but I cannot get the tempo exact. i have put this accapella into my software program, Adobe Audition, and I put the metronome on. I have come pretty close by using my ear alone but it is not exact and after a minute in the song I start to hear a delay. I then downloaded some cheap software programs to calculate the file but their calculations are not as exact as my orginal (one is way off). can someone please help me with this?

here's the file...

There are a few different Beat Calculators out there. This one is online and you just click on the mouse to the beat of the song. Hold the mouse on the last beat for the tempo to stay.

would it not be possible to find out the bpm on the actual track (with music and voice) and then just transfere that knowledge to the accapella track? good luck

I didn't think of that but you know might have a good idea here. it would probably be easier for the software programs (and myself) to determine the tempo with the drum machine in there than with the vocals only since we singers and rappers usually don't always sing exactly on the beat. however i'm in a dilemma because i am not allowing myself to hear the original until after I finish my remix.

marcelj that is a cool site but sometimes when I click it doesn't do anything.

I got 97 bpm in Fruityloops
with a simple cut a past of 8 beats.....

Its probably not the answer you want....
as I've never had much success with
synching a full song...

You can play around with decimal points,
or just cut the song up before the drift
and re-start the second third and fourth
parts syched to your beat, rather than
the actual song...

and that song is NAHHHSTEEEE.... lol lol lol

thanks groovy for doing that biggrin . 97 is around the many answers I have got from myself, websites, and software programs but i have a new solution to the problem... I have discovered that my Sonic Foundry Acid 4.0 Demo can stretch it at any tempo I want... so say the tempo is exactly 97.665 bpm - i can make it where it plays exactly 97 or 100, 120, etc...

if you have never had much success with syncing songs I suggest you get Sonic Foundry Acid.

ok i'm as lost as ever mad . Acid 4.0 does work but I still can't get it working for this acapella. I swear I think the acapella is changing tempos.

BPMCount (the best), ArBPM. Clicking the mouse button to a beat will always produce inaccurate result, pressing the space bar (or other key on the keyboard) will produce better results.

However, the tempo of the song will start drifting no matter what after several minutes into the song. All soundcards/motherboards chips have their unique "time crystals" that cannot be synced without the two different computer units operating via MIDI (which is not the case if you are just importing a track created on another computer). So you will have to do what groovyiau is suggesting with cutting up the track at several points and re-synching it when the drift starts to become apparent.

It's not that big a deal, really.

yeah it looks like I am going to do that. Though I have gotten extremely close to having it click the whole way through with a bpm that has 9 digits after the decimal point lol - (i got a little obsessive)
