How do you guys use myspace?

I'm just wondering how you guys use myspace to promote your music... I don't play live... I just set up a profile and I'm wondering what I can do... Thanks.

One of the best ways I've found to use myspace, is if I'm playing in a different city, I can search for people in that city and tell them about my show. It works like a charm! I normally wouldn't be able to get to these people. I also use it alot to set up shows in other areas besides my hometown. I love it!

I look at the comments on similar artists pages and invite the ones who made enthousiastic comments about the music of this artist.

Also I "favorite" users that have made positive comments about our music, so when we have new product to sell I put up a banner at their page. Even if they have already bought the record these people are often inclined to make a positive comment on your page, which makes you look well-respected and popular. And this makes a good impression on people that have never heard of you and your music and visit your page!

This is basically how I do the Bumper MySpace page and it seems to be working quite well. After I did a banner session for the "Everybody Fonki" EP (and recieved lots of props from fans in the form of cool comments) various labels invited us to do a release at their label. I suspect that they were partially influenced by all the enthousiastic comments on the page, although of course our music kicks ass and that alone should have been enough reason to give us a deal, hehe! lol
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I boycotted myspace because I've never like it but...

I ran into a high school friend (who's a musician) and he told me "get over it dude, it's the only way to bring a crowd to your gigs"

So I got over it and I'm working on my myspace page for my band. Hoping to have it functional this weekend.

edit - I'll come back to this thread and see if there's any other things besides get a label to sign me like Geoff lol

Just invited all you guys!
I use myspace to invite people I know, then I invite people I'd like to know from their list of friends. I also add famous artists so people can get an idea of what I'm into. I really like it. I can upload my tunes and pictures, post gig information and keep in touch with people who like my kind of music. It's much easier than having your own website, and the cahnce that people will actually hear your music is much bigger.

I find myspace to be excellent if you are an up and coming musician and you can't afford to get a website. You can put 4 of you songs up, photos and your upcoming gigs, post broadcasts about your upcoming cocerts and all. Plus there are little goodies with backgrounds, slideshows to work it

As you can read here, I recorded a four track EP, had some artwork made and put it all up on myspace for everyone to download if they like. I'm an amateur musician with a steady job and Myspace is one way to get my music to people who might enjoy it outside of my hometown. If it helps to promote gigs or whatever, that's nice too.
