i was wondering how and what did u musicians,vocalists and lyricists learn from prince?

today my english teacher was asking his students to read carefully and try to observe the writing styles of the authors so that we may be able to write like them and make speeches like hitler and malcom x. also, as a fan of mj's dancing, i learned how to do the moonwalk and a few other steps by observing him, his work and the fans who learned from him.

what has prince taught u all and how were u able to pass it off as originality?!

That to make music with feeling, you have to put some in. A lot about funk phrasings & the will to strive for my goals

the Importance of Sound.He isn't the best at any One Instrument IMHO but the Guy Managed to Fuse a Sound that Complimented what He was going after as a Artist&I tip my Hat to that Element He brought as with any other Artist that understands it's about the SOund,Emotion&Feeling¬ based on Speed or 99 Riffs per minute.

Hey...I don't post on this site alot, but I am a Prince fan, and a musician. I'd never really been to the musician hangout before...So HI to you all...this is cool. I have definitely been influenced by Prince as a musician. As far as what I have learned from him, I've learned to be more confident in my songwriting and lyrical content. Things I may not have said before, I am not afraid to say in my songs anymore, about love, feelings etc., and I think that his songwriting is sincere, and being a fan of his music, has made me more of a sincere person in general. He also taught me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I now write all of my own music, I learned to play most of the instruments myself, and be self contained as a writer, performer. He really is one of my main inspirations for continuing to play music.

I do agree on fact of being confident on the lyrics and his lyrics seem to cotain several analogies and wonderful, thought-out associations.

I am first and foremost a singer, but I play some keys, bass, and guitar as well. I usually program the drums myself, or use free loops off of the net. I plan to get more into the drum programming on future stuff to add more dynamics to my tunes. I plan to re-record everything on my Mp3 site and make then sound as good as possible. I admit I have some work to do. I record everything in my apartment on a Roland VS-880 EX digital workstation. All vocals are me as well. Thanks for asking...Mark

To go ahead and write as the Spirit moves me, not worrying about being so technical, and yet at the same time having a great respect for the entire "process" and helping to guide the song into the song it is meant to be -- maybe even better.

musically? layering of sounds, alot of production skills in the studio in general, he's taught me more than anyone else all the amazing things one can do with their voice as an instrument.

I agree. I was thinking of what sets Prince aside from many others. Besides for his interesting lyrics, he sings so differently in each and every song. Also, his music such as in the song: Computer Blue or Come, the music is mind-blowing, and unique.

Has Prince ever said how he creates songs? Does he practice everything until it is perfected or does he get it on with the moment? What as he said?

Prince really doesn't say how he creates songs, but we've heard through several other people how some of Prince's songs were made. It seems that a lot of the time he just jams, gets ideas that way, and builds a song around it (many times making the lyrics up on the spot). But other times, he seems to be much more careful and technical with the way he puts a song together. I think he's experimented with many different ways of making music. I remember Prince saying that he found a new way to make music when he was working on The Gold Experience. Anyone know what he did that was different? (TGE is one of my favs).
