I've been taking guitar lessons since '99. I would love to try the sax or piano as well, but there isn't enough time in the world.

I have never had a vocal lesson in my life, and I taught myself to play piano, guitar, and bass too.

How do you teach yourself singing, and playing insturments?
Do you know what you are doing wrong?

God shot me up good with talent...shit! look, just spilled some music on the floor...came right out my ass...good too!

All I do is let the voices in my head take control of my hands and feet, nobody else taught me how to do that.

I'm not sure what you mean about "do you know what you are doing wrong?"

I'm assuming that you mean, how could I know if I am playing correctly if I never had lessons? Well my family tells me that I was really into music at a very young age. In fact, the first recording of me singing was when I was 2. It's weird to go back now and hear that, because I had no idea, even at 14 that I would ever play in a band. I was just really into music, and had an ear for melody. I watched other artists, listened to my brothers albums, and sang mostly by myself at home, because I was shy to the point of embarassment. A friend of mine at school had heard me sing, and he asked me to join their band when I was 17. I was just a singer for many years, doing other people's songs and eventually started writing lyrics, playing some melodies on the piano, and learning a few chords on guitar. Then a few years ago, after singing in many bands over the years, I decided to do things on my own, bought a guitar, a bass, keyboard, and some recording equipment. I really just felt my way through the process and just learned how to put music together by listening, watching, and a desire to do it. I'm still not even close to a great musician technically, but I have a much better idea how to craft songs and record on my own. Prince was a huge help to me in that regard. So hopefully that will answer your question, and I don't mind you asking, cuz I would have wanted to ask someone when I was younger too. I assume you are younger? If not please correct me.

Okay Suby, I just saw that you are 16. I will try to get around to answering your other questions on the thread about music school etc as soon as I can smile

I got a good grounding in lessons on several instruments before the age of 14, and have been self-taught ever since. I do read a lot of books on music theory and composition, so in that way I guess I'm still taking lessons?
