My son is trying to get me to buy a Jackson V for some of our heavier music.... The only Jackson I've ever played was a really expensive American-made Soloist. That was a fantastic instrument, but that's in the top-dollar bracket, which I don't think you're looking at for this one. I don't own one yet, but I'm planning to own a DK2M very shortly . Superstrats with maple fingerboards are hard to come by, and Jackson have really kicked their competition by coming out with one that's so good. I've heard nothing but good things about 'em. Jackson are now equipping their mid-range guitars with Seymour Duncan pickups as standard, they've hardened the baseplates of their JT580 locking trems, offer a good range of colours, and are now producing the majority of them in Japan, so you're guaranteed of a good level of quality control. The thing with Vs is that you're primarily buying a look. If you're looking for a guitar mainly to make heavier music, rather than to look like you're playing heavier, it might be worth looking at some non-V models, like the DK2M

wow, great info! Thanks. I imagine my son is more interested in the look, raging hormonal teen, which is probably why he chose the BC Rich, i myself am more interested in the metal sound.

Gotcha In that case, take a look at some Dean guitars. The Razorback is the most outrageously metal-looking guitar in the universe, designed by Dimebag Darrell from Pantera before he was killed: or the Razorback V The Dime from Hell is the guitar Dime used for years in Pantera, and that's also uber-metal: These guitars are bred for metal, a totally tight, punchy tone and ridiculous metal squeals and tricks . Here's a video of the Dime from Hell in action: http://www.youtube.com/wa...TR-tePa0Bg
