The Independent A&R website, I mean. My band is seriously considering it. I know everyone's experiences are different, but I was wondering what some of those experiences were.

O.K.--next question: Why *haven't* you used TAXI???

I tend to be pretty mixed on this. I have heard of people who have gotten something out of it, but I will tell you now, if you aren't writing commercial sounding songs that sound ready to be thrown out there right now, I wouldn't waste my cash. They tend to be less inclined towards avant guarde, developmental music and experimental music. So if you're sitting in your bedroom with your keyboard with some music with potential, Taxi's not for you. I went to a few of those songwriter workshops and I listened to a few artists that were chosen by them and their stuff, no offense, is nothing special. It is just generic sounding commercial music that sounds like it could wind up in someone's movie, commercial or on someone's album. Not something you would necessarily remember or that sticks in your head. But you have to remember that the people whose songs get picked and the people who don't is still very small odds. Just because your song get picked means it will go along with other people's songs so you still might not wind up with anything. That's my take on it anyway.

I thought you were asking if any of us has sampled Bob James, and the answer to that is YES.

Did I miss the point here? There is a membership company that has a panel of A&R guys that will listen to your music and submit it to get either picked up by a label or for certain songwriting projects - is this something different? If so, my apologies.

HOWEVER, most of the success stories center around getting a song picked up for TV shows, movies, background songs in broadcast basically. I haven't heard so much about"My song got on Slim Whitman's last record!"

I've been thinking about joining, but I want to put together some totally pop-acoustic songs first. Go take a look at the site, and check out the music that's going places on there.

It's mighty pricey ($299 for a year?) so I think you should REALLY have your songs as polished and previously reviewed with rave results before sinking that much money into it.

Yeah, the price was a little daunting. Some of the music we've been writing for our upcoming CD does sound like it could possibly be used as music beds for commercials and so forth. Once we get some stuff mixed, I'm going to get some feedback from ya'll and a few other places to see whatcha think.

It also costs $5 for each submission, and they choose whether or not your song is good enough to be submitted. So you might go through the trouble & pay your fee, only to have your song rejected by Taxi before anyone who matters listens to it.
