Power Chords! Yes! OMG. I bought this DVD from this australian guy online...got it in the mail today. Woosh is all i can say. i learned so freaking much in the first 30 minutes. Learned every note and how to quickly identify them on the first two strings. learned all power chords.....freaking unbelievable.
his whole theory is learn the power chords so you can have a bit of fun and not get discouraged as you learn all the rest. great theory, i can totally see that point of view. in one hour i was able to belt out some blackened (mind you not in time, but hey i got the basic sound).....but the best part is ALL IN ONE FREAKIN HOUR! So anyhoo, this has me on a natural high right now. Fixing to hit the circuit and go watch some friends jam downtown....catch yall on the next train. WooHoo, I am loving my guitar right now

Hell, do watchalike, I own records by people who use power chords almost exclusively (Johnny Ramone rocks!). Have fun with it!
(Altough John Scofield once joked: "If you only play barre chords, you'll only play in bars")

I do have a question though. these power chords are kick ass, but i do want to learn the proper chords as well. But, I am a bit confused. An example, the C Major chord. Should be the 1, 3, 5, right? Which would be C E G....so why is the C F C# notes?

lol asked myself the samething when i switched from playing keys to guitar i still don't properly understand it... its not a C# its a C but thats an open chord your not hitting those 3 notes your hitting the notes you touch and the open note sto geneerate the C major sound see all the notes your hitting are E,C,E,G,C,E, see all notes in the triad, some notes repeated, another way to hit the C major chord would be a barrechord either on the 1st string 8thfret, or the 2nd string 3rd fret, you could turn it into a C5 or power chord with the same notes [Edited 11/4/06 12:58pm] I am a Rail Road, Track Abandoned

I say, stick to power chords until you find a reason to need something else. The power chords get you to the stage. The other chords get you to the studio.
The really complex chords get you booed off the stage. Stay away from anything that requires more than 2 letters to describe it. Cmaj9add2dim Come again? oh calm down it was a joke. I use that chord everyday in my jazz fusion band. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Nuffin' wrong with power chords!
I spent countless hours playing along to Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid' album. Great way to improve your timing and picking hand technique.
