I got a RAT! I admit, I'm addicted to buying distortion pedals. So far I've owned (and later sold): - Boss DS-1 (3) - Boss DS-2 - Boss BD - Boss Fuzz - Dunlop Hendrix fuzz - Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face - Ibanez TS-10 - Ibanez TS-9 reissue - Ibanez tubescreamer soundtank - Ibanez fuzz wah And now, finally, I've got a ProCo Rat. Just like anyone from Scofield and Frisell to Dave Gilmour. No loss of lows, no weird mods necessary, built like a tank, true bypass and capable of a zillion sounds from warm crunch to screaming maniac. I love it! [Edited 10/20/06 4:51am]

Congratulations!
I my RAT too. Sounds great with single coils. Hmm, looks like you have/had a thing for Tubescreamers... In that case I'd seriously recommend adding the Digitech Bad Monkey to your list

I'm thinking about buying a Fuzz Face. I've been using the one in my POD and I love it. I'm guessing that the real thing can only be that much better.
Enjoy the Rat! I had one decades ago. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

I really liked it, but I sold it because it didn't work with my Crybaby Wah. Something with Ohms or Volts or whatever - very annoying since I thought I'd have the perfect Hendrix/Maggot Brain sound with that combination!

Oh shit. For real? Well. What the F did Hendrix have if he didn't have a Crybaby? Dang it. Did you run the wah before or after the Fuzz? I've been really digging running the wah after the distortion lately. Ah - check it. He ran the wah after everything else (well, according to Guitar Geek). http://guitargeek.com/rigview/354/ [Edited 10/26/06 6:28am] www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Princes Lead tone is Screaming because it is recorded at about 75 watts. So he gets cycling through the pickups through the speakers which creates that subharmonic screaming and harmonizing of notes.
He has a tad bit of chorus on his signal, all from the front end. As far as I could see he does not use the FX loop. He has a noise gate set at about 3-4 with 0 attack. His chorus speed is low, like 3 Chorus depth is like 8 Chorus predelay is at about 3 The wave is at about 4 and the balance is in the Middle His Compressor runs attack 4 Ratio 3 Threshold 2 Gain 7 For that screaming lead tone try a spark drive set at Gain 7 Tone 4 Clean 7 Volume 7 and set your delay to Time 3 Feedback 0 Threshold 10 attenuation 2 spread 7 Level 4 Set your amp to Gain 8 Bass 6 Mids 8 Treble 7 Presence 3 If you can get ahold of a Soldano SLO Youd be REAL close to his tone. Aside from not having his finger tips

I always also recommend that people have their shins amputated, go back in time and spend your teen years being mocked for being short, grow up at your aunts house. Move to Minneapolis.
If you're serious about getting the prince tone, why cut corners, hunh? www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Found this on the net:
"In general, Wahs aren't happy if put before a Fuzz Face or similar low input impedance pedals. Vox and Crybaby Wahs are designed to drive high impedance devices like tube amps, so if you're plugging into another pedal, it needs to have an input buffer. Jimi got away with it because he used his Univibe between the Wah and the Fuzz." Wah after distortion is cool, but I was going for the very retro QUACK! when I combined these pedals in the first place. So bring your wah (same model doesn't always mean same components) and try it out in the store before you buy. On the other hand, as I'm sure you remember, the RAT is capable of lovely fuzztones at a fraction of the price (I love the new pedal honeymoon period, don't you?)

Just put a compressor before a distortion like a boss ds-2, add a little chorus and a lot of delay, maybe put a wah before the dist and use a neck position humbucker.

Got me one of these too, today! Cant friggin' help myself. It's like something between a wah and a phaser that responds to your picking attack. Prince used something like this (probably a Boss autowah) on Erotic City and other 80s tracks, I think. I'm going for an Eric Krasno-type sound with it (check out the Soulive live album).
