DAT is still a viable form of data transfer. Many recording houses still use DATs for their final mixes.
For the same reasons that people still use 2 1/2" reel-to-reel. They invested a lot of money in them. Cassettes are not the same as DATs. DAT is Digital Audio Tape. Cassettes are analog. They are pretty much obsolete.

Damn, i was just about to post the same thread,
I have been working for 5 months on a album on a dell with pc recording software, good software also, not cheap.
I have a back up vault server, 2 of them actualy, and last night, it all crashed, locked up and went away. eek
I absolutely freaked out. I have Big $ and time into this, (time is $ )Ive been on the phone with dell systems for 8 hours total.

So, I hate protools, sounds like crap, I love analog and 2" reel to reel, but you have to store the tapes and they are very expensive, plus, you cant bounce tracks without audio degradation on 2" or even dat for that matter.

So, I am in a serious quandry.
Go back to dat and 2" or stick with these damn computers. My whole project is on hold...
I was going to ask what you guys do ( i dont mean guys with 4 track tascam tape decks,)
I got all this software based processing crap, I dont do over dubs, everything is live, I just dont know.
Im looking to get Genex converters, and nuendo running right, with everything else i have, I should be able to whip out awesome sounding stuff, then, the damn PC dont recognize the cdrw drive.....
Maybe Ill just get a big gun and Kill all this stuff, thats what I feel like doing

what is the heart of your recording systems?
HD's or dats or what?
eventides, api's (the good ones from when the guy from tonelux was around)
protools, nuendo????
what?
