First, figure out the key of the song.
Next, figure out the root note to each chord (listen to the bass guitar for the best clues to this part). Write those down on paper: verse: chorus: And then go back and try to determine if they're major, minor, suspended or diminished, And then go back to find out if there are extensions like 6th, 7th, 9th, etc. I think the hardest parts will be the jazzy stuff during the passage where he sings "stole my old lady away from me" - because the root note may not be the prominent note in the chord. A lot of times, those passing chords (a chord that happens in between two prominent changes) are a bear to figure out, because it's highly likely the songwriter doesn't even know the chords, he's just moving one finger to the left to kind of "hint" at the upcoming chord. OR, you can continue to wait for somebody else to tell you the chords to this song, and then the next one you're trying to learn, and the next one, and the next one. Seems like you'd save a lot of time if you just learn some basic chord theory. Try this site - it's very VERY simple and explains guitar chord theory very clearly: http://guitar-masters.com...ds-01.html And then, if you find that this whole chord theory thing clicks with you, or you need some more visual aides, try this site: http://www.e-chords.com/ With a downloadable "chord finder". VERY very useful for getting your head around chords. [Edited 6/22/06 5:45am] www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD! | |
