i was just wondering, does everybody enjoy the whole musical process?
for me the best part of coming up with the song is the beginning the creativity process...
just run a four bar loop and just start developing motifs and different sort of ideas. After this part it starts to becomee tedious for me. Adjusting the song to a certain structure, than mixing, automating and mastering. It just kinda turns me off. I have tons of mixes that are so raw because i didn't botheer to properly finish them. Not because of laziness, but because its such a tedious effort and takes hours to do.
I can come up with a song in an hour, but it would take a whole day to properly finish it.

I just wanted to know if its the same for everyone else?
if so, how do you motivate yourself to finish the song?
sometimes i get preocupied with begginning a new song, rather than finishing an old one...

Yes, building it right sometimes makes me want to walk and when it does, I do. Then I come back to it and try to figure out what the vibe was and tune back in with fresh ears.

Too many times have I just deleted something because of frustration but that time is over. Save it to cd/dvd and come back when I have the energy to finish it, that's the new me. Ideas come and go but the real songs that have staying power have to be worked out.

I got so many damn Ideas, and I lost my MTV Generator to do everything. DAYM! What the fuck im gonna do now!?

Anyway, It is harder making something from the head..because usually it just dont come out the way I imagined..but making a beat and song out of nowhere is magic.

I like the process of spontanous creative combustion. Both in one...Creativity while constructing Structure.

I put it away for a little bit so I forget about it and then I can come back to it with fresh eyes later.

You'll get used to it over the years. When you have the confidence in yourself, and are working on the strengths you know you possess (and don't try to things you either can't, or are trying to emulate somebody else's style & standards) it isn't that boring at all.

I find structure to be really important. jams just end up on the cutting room floor, mostly. you have to at least have a road map. i find that if i get a good song structure and make it really tight to begin with in basic tracks, everything else is smooth sailing and i can improvise the rest.

I have the same, many many ideas for songs on my computer but hardly any finished songs. It's just hard labour and you have to make decisions all the time, which I find really hard, hehe!

That's why I prefer to work with other people, you can make decisions far more easily that way. If both think it's OK then it probably is and you can move on to the next step in the making of the song.
