The Org Artist FLATTERY Thread! I was just thinking (wow, I actually used my brain for a minute).
Anyway, I was just thinking....Have any of you been compared to any other famous artists? Most of us, at one time or another, have been slightly compared to Prince with regard to some of our sounds and methods, but who have you been DIRECTLY compared to- with regard to what you are about, the quality of your music, your writing capabilities, etc. I'll start first: I have been directly compared to Jesse Johnson's Revue by many people, and I must say, I am very, very happy about that. Who have you been compared to, and are you happy with the comparisons? Z7

Okay- I'll begin with reviewing other artists:
VinaBlue: Your music and style remind me of Tori Amos- big time. You have the writing ability and the musical ability. Frank Axtell: What can I say? WOW. Your music is fantastic. Your talent and innovation are none less than the great Les Paul- of course the music style is different- your music is very much like Miles Davis, but the talent is what I speak of when I compare you to Les. Andy Divine: The closest sound to Prince's from the org musicians. PaisleyPark4(Izaiah): Your style is like Tricky. All the way. Anyone else have comparisons or want to make comparisons?

I get the Prince thing all the time - just because of the music - not my voice, (I'm hopin). I'd bet that half - no - most of the old-timers on here get the Prince comparison.
I've also been compared to Cheap Trick and INXS. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

I've also been compared to Cheap Trick and INXS. You are SO Inxs! I would say vocally though, you are a more manly version of Robert Palmer.

If I am honest with myself, my true vocals are more like Jon B from the earlier years.

When I don't use the voice synth and "Camille" style voice effect, that is.... [Edited 3/14/06 14:48pm]

That's what makes me remember and appreciate the artist the most, is when their style is unpredictable and unique...same with Dreamfirstborn...these are the kinda artists I remember for being true to themselves musically too. But someone on here who did sound like Jesse Johnson to me is Littlewing (whatever happened to. ) Everybody really has their own unique style. But one, Psykosoul, when I hear his voice I think about D'Angelo...though i never heard anything like what Psykosoul does musically in the D'Angelo catolouge [Edited 3/15/06 17:41pm] Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Style wise I've been compared to George Michael (I wish it was true) and Michael Jackson. (I try to give my vocals my best Michael Jackson impression everytime I'm on the mic, so that could be why. ) As for other org artists, I think most of the "org" artists that I've heard sound very unique, and unlike lots of the "popular" artists of yesterday and today. Which, I think is awesome. If only A&R guys thought like that.

Pyskosoul, Sly meets D'Angelo Beau, Robert Palmer meets the Alman Brothers Vina, Tori meets some cool 80's band I can't think of I'll have to go to the sticky and check out some other people this weekend.

I'm not really sure who I sound like!
I'm a big mix: My piano playing gets compared to Tori Amos, but my voice is obviously nothing like her. My rock stuff (on guitar, bass, drums, vocals, etc) is anything from John Lennon to Prince, Hendrix and Nirvana, Led Zep.... and a bit of Jeff Buckley, someone once said. And then there's the funky stuff which has some Princey production mixed with an "alternative" vibe. And with jazz, etc (I play sax too), I get John Coltrane, Eric Leeds, Maceo Parker... and others... What u think? http://www.soundclick.com/johnphillip . [Edited 4/30/06 20:35pm]
