Hate it when shit's starting to break apart. Just noticed the preamps on my mixer have started to elicit shitloads of really annoying noise (it's apparently caused by the in-built FX processor) I can kill it off by using balanced plugs, but hell I don't want to invest in those at this moment. The knobs on my synthesizer workstation are falling off and the sustain pedal apparently doesn't seem to work anymore (the ROM battery's been dead for the last two years anyway). Most of my microphone cables are unusable by this point and something's seriously wrong with my audiointerface's drivers as I hear a lot of latency glitches when there really should be none. The wah-wah pedal also dies out randomly and who knows what next... All of the tubes on my tube-gear should be replaced by this point anyway (that's about eleven to twelve vacuum tubes).
... and I'm going to need this gear in two weeks of time on a gig. When you've bought cheap stuff or the gear is getting old it's starting to be an alarming situation if it all seems to be going defunct at once. Yeah, it might have been a great sentiment to buy each piece of my home-studio setup back in the old days but you also should have had taken into account that electronics are only going to last for a certain amount of time. Crap.

it's funny, when I think of the amount of gear I used to have compared to what I use now it's amazing. I'm pretty much down to a lovely SPL Gold mic preamp, v drums, gtrs, acoustic piano and a PC!!! ditched all the synths and went for the soft option.
I must say it's a pain in the arse to get a solid system, but once it's working it's better than any hardware equivelant I've used, and I've worked in some pretty kitted out studios. My advice, is if it's falling apart ditch it and get it on a computer!

Yeah already done that. Years ago, it's just that all the stuff that can't be done in the CPU doman and all the pieces of gear I need to take with me on a gig are starting to show their age...
