My (former) band Flex - some info and mp3s (UPDATED)

I've played guitar since I was 14 years old (since 1996) and I have been writing songs since that time. Me and my friends started a band called Acido in 1999. The band played silly rock music mostly influenced by whatever we listened to at the time. One song, "Syra" ("Acid") even got played on Radio 2 in Iceland.
In 2001 me and my friend Einar, a singer/guitarist, decided to change the musical direction of the band and changed the name to Lexapex (btw, the name is just gibberish). We made one song, "Final Fantasy", a very Linkin Park-esque song, that also got played on Radio 2. In early 2003 me and my friend decided to join 3 other players and formed the band Flex. This band played melodic pop/rock aimed at the mainstream audience in Iceland. We played several shows in the summer of 2003, sticking mostly to cover songs.
3 months after band was formed, the lead guitarist quit the band, so I become the only guitarist in the band. We were very lucky with our practice space. We shared a building with several popular Icelandic bands, including the band Kung Fu, whose band members rented the space to the other bands. They also owned a studio situated in the same building and they were kind enough to let us record our songs for free! smile
We completed 3 demos, 2 original songs and 1 inpromptu take of The Who's "My Generation". We recorded basic instrumentation for 3-4 songs, but the band folded before we got a chance to finish the songs. Songwriting was my responsibility in the band, although Einar wrote some of our stuff too. He, however, was in charge of writing lyrics. The band played only 2 gigs in 2004, because our bass player was too busy at work. Finally, in late 2004 I decided to quit the band because I was also busy at work and school. Soon after that, the band folded.

Well... that's enough of background info for now.... I decided to share 2 songs that my band, Flex, recorded in early 2004. Please note that these songs are registered at the Icelandic equivalent of ASCAP so please respect our copyright. The links are temporary, but I will put up new links when these links stop working, if anyone's interested. Enjoy!

Song no. 1: "Engin takmörk" ("No limits")
Music: David (that's me smile ) Words: Einar. Vocals: Einar, Guitars: David, Bass: Siggi, Drums: Bjöggi.

Song no. 2: "Strákur" ("Boy") Music: David and Einar, Words: David and Einar. Instrument credits same as above, except the synths and "tambourine" were played by our studio engineer.

I decided to post links also to 2 of the other pre-Flex songs mentioned above.... I also have our cover of "My Generation" but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post mp3 links to cover songs here..... anywho... here are 2 other songs! Enjoy smile

"Final Fantasy": Recorded in 2002 on my old Pentium II PC using the line-in on the soundcard to record the guitar sounds thru my FX pedal and a crappy computer mic for the vocals. Vocals: Einar, Guitars, Drum Machines and Stuff: David. Words: Einar and David. Music: David.

"Syra": Recorded in 2000 at a low-budget studio in rural East-Iceland. Note: this track has not been mastered which is the reason for the low volume. Perhaps I will master it myself and post that version later. Music: David. Words: Einar and David. Vocals: Einar, Guitars: David and Einar, Bass: Elli, Drums: Tom.
