(UPDATED: monitors bought!) Studio monitors: what do you use?

I am looking for some nice (semi-)affordable studio monitors (up to 600 euro/ 650 USD a pair). I know this ain't gonna get me some Mackies or Genelecs, but I hope I can find something nice nevertheless.

There are 3 sets that I have a preference for:

* Blue Sky MediaDesk: http://www.abluesky.com/p.../p3s7.html)
* KRK Rokit RP8: http://www.krksys.com/v3/rokit_rp8.asp
* Event TR8: http://www.event1.com/Pro...erence.htm

Does anyone know or has experience with one or more of these sets? What would you prefer? Would you recommend a complete other pair of monitors? Let me know please...

It's funny how, at the very moment I panned over back to the ORG, I was on Music123 looking for some monitors to use. I know Mackies can cost a bit, which is why for right now, I'll be shooting for value for the buck.

Can anyone recommend some good monitors? Thanks in advance.

I'd go for the Rokit monitors. Not as flat a response as the NS10 (which are no longer available) but pretty damn impressive all the same.

I just bought a pair of KRK Rokit 5 studio monitors. They were on sale at Guitar Center for 99.00 a piece. They list for 299.00 a piece. They are the right size for where I wanted to put them and are powered and sound great.

Mission Passive - ridiculously neutral in terms of EQing (which I hardly ever use in recording unless I have a really sh*tty Bass sound or sumthin').

Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

I got them too, you can't get anything like them at same price. They are pretty damn close (Chinese) replicas of the Genelecs they are modeled upon. I've tried them both side to side (the Behringers and the Genelecs) and didn't hear a damn difference.

More money for food.

OK I went way off limit and bought the Genelec 8030a monitors, hehe! They were almost 250 euro more expensive than my initial budget but damn, they sound way better than anything below that price, and Lord knows I have tried to like some of these cheaper ones, hehe! lol

But in the end there was no escape, and now I am the proud owner of these babies:

The imaging and definition of these monitors are a real treat, everything is there. Incredible bass definition for such small speakers and the mid and high are outstanding. Listening to even the most wornout albums I own I discover new sounds and details.

They might be somewhat lacking if you want to really feel the sub-end of the bass, but if I want sub I just switch on my big-ass KEF hifi speakers, hehe!

Anyway, these small Genelecs give me just what I need to improve my mixes. I for one am a very happy man, hehe! cool

They are really nice monitors but unfortunately very expensive in Europe. But certainly a good choice.
