I currently use Cubase to record my music... but I'm looking for something better now... any advice? I'm sick of using Cubase.
I haven't found it particularly user-friendly and the quality is pretty poor in my opinion. I've heard some good things about Logic... what other ones would you recommend? I'm looking for one that's high in quality and fairly easy to use.... Also bare in mind that I'm not exactly loaded with £££... I'd really appreciate any comments.

Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

i use Pro Tracks - came bundled with my RP400. Overall user friendly and get's the job done. There are some things I wish it would do, but since i have not been able to find a decent manual (the supplied manual is worthless) i don't know whether the program can't or i just can't figure out how to do those things.

My instinct is telling me to use Logic. Are the manuals any help? Also which version of Logic is the best and most user-friendly?
How much does it cost???

All these programs use the same audio formats in one way or another, so what is the quality drop you're noticing?
Logic is supposed to be great. I think it costs around:$1000 for Logic Pro. Logic express is $300 I use Protools LE and Soundtrack Pro. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I've been using Cubase for 5 years now and am quite happy with its performance. Admittedly, it was tough to get my head round at first, so I get what you mean about it not being very user friendly.
I've heard good things about Mackie's Tracktion. Apparently it has a very clean, intuitive interface and can be picked up quite easily. Been meaning to try out the demo but haven't got round to it yet. (Just checked the official site and saw that Morris Hayes is endorsing Tracktion. )

I have a bootleg copy of Cubase 5, with no manual.... so a lot of it is guess work... For some reason it won't let me record on Midi, so everything is done through Audio... after multi-layering about 15 tracks on Audio the quality as you can imagine isn't up to much. I don't know if I have it on the wrong setting or whatever, but whenever I try recording on Midi it just doesn't work. Does anyone know why that could be???

Pro Tools LE M box or Digi 002 You won't regret it.
That is if you're looking for a decent way to record music.

I think If you want to record midi you might need an official copy.
Once you start messing with these programs "bootlegwise" they might start messing with you.

If U R using XP, I've heard of a not too dissimilar problem... guess that's why SX was implemented. 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

I've looked around and Pro Tools isn't what I thought it was going to be. It looks like a piece of equiptment... I thought it was going to be a CD I could install onto my computer, like Cubase...
Is that not so? | |

Steinberg Cubase SX/Nuendo -series are some of the best programs around. It doesn't get any easier to track down music than that. I've personmally used Cakewalk Sonar 2 at home for years, and feel no need to upgrade (I perhaps should though...). Don't bother with Logic unless you are willing to spend a lot of time learning how the program works, I've tried to teach the program to numerous people at my previous job and I can testify no one ever learnt to use it, so I just did the job with them by using Nuendo. Logic has a great MIDI environment, but that's about it.

I use the Pro Tools MBox. Pretty compact and doesn't take a degree in rocket science to get some decent recordings. Costs about 4 and some change. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth
