PurpleHouse said: PurpleHouse said: Someone said this is the best album since the gold experience... But u shouldnt call yourself a prince fan if u come out with comments like that. ive listened to the album and seen the project. It is an awesome project. However, Prince is an artist and I am a prince fan because he chooses to express himself as he pleases, and doesnt contrain himself, he is always after something different. Thats why i like him. It would seem some of you dont like him because of that. None of these tracks compare or omce close to his lastest release (Hurricane relief track). And there was plenty of funk in the extended jam. These sounds to me, on this project, are a little boring. I have heard them all before and I think the "Artist formally known as ?" who did a spate of prince like copycat 80's funk sound, did a better job. His voice and music sounded so close to prince, ive seen mp3's label the songs as prince bootlegs! it was not prince. I am fascinated how some of you just dont give cred where it's due. Thank goodness prince doesnt make music like this any more and he has moved on/evolved. Its a great project as it is, and a great effort, but some of the comments on this thread are worrying to say the least.. Prince has never completely left out the mineapolis sound anyway.. 1+1+1=3?? I do wonder about some of u sometimes! I think ppl are getting carried away in here! Not knockin the project, just the comments... Actually these songs have inspired me to listen to my huge mp3 bootleg collection... ouch!!!!! Just listened to schoolyard... kicks a$$ man.. these songs are a great effort but just dont compare to the man! I understand everything you say, PH. If you check out my music, I am always giving thanks to Prince for the musical inspiration. Also, check out the New Funk Order page titled "What is Funk?". This gives much love to the pioneers of funk, and gives large up's to Prince in the most. We at the NFO are trying to ensure the 4th Generation of Funk, which will be "New Funk" or, "Neo-Spank" as I call it. True tho, some folks are too lax about propas. This project is a tribute to Prince and the "MPLS Sound" though. Unfortunately, some of us don't have the kind of equipment like Terry, Jimmy, and Prince. If we did, we could be at the same caliber (not to give myself some horns or anything ) Glad that you like it, PH. Talk to you soon! Your friend, Jason

Kelly, I listened to this album in my MP3 player today and it was really good. I think you improved on the sound quality of alot of the tracks. I am even more impressed with everybody's contribution when I listen to it as a whole unit. It is good for us to have the MPLS flavor kept alive. Great job orgers.WOW!

(which are classic). What patch/synth are you using? and are you using mod/pitch wheel to make that sound or just the way you're hitting the keys? [Edited 11/2/05 10:20am]

I'm sorry to say I'm just getting around to listening to all the tracks in full now that I put them on my iPod.
I'm REALLY digging Pskosoul's Deep Concord Jam (that synth riff is kicking my *ass!) and Christian's "This Man is On Fire" is like a lost Time outtake with Camille on vocals!!! Still going through the rest..... but this project is awesome y'all!

Moderator | It's been stated before that this was and is a gift to the prince.org community and a project that was put together for fun. If you read the thread, everyone should have that understood. This is not some big budget production and no one had to pay a dime to listen to it. If you did not enjoy it, move on. Just if I got a sweater for Christmas that I didn't like, I'm not going to wear it. Drop that crap and drama right now or I'll drop it myself. After reading this, you should understand that the deleted comments only instigated more reactions. Unfortunately online message boards attract some folks that simply look to get an emotional response from people. We call it baiting around here. We could do that too, I suppose. Remember most critics are 30 something, no job and still living at home with their mother and on the internet all day long trying desperately to create some sort of meaning to their life when it's right outside waiting for them. But we won't go there. Have fun. Keep the party movin'. Move on.

Lisa was SHOCKED that I submitted this for public consumption.....and when I told her it made it to the complation.... although I'm the one that should be more embarassed I only wish our original take survived, which had Lisa calling out the "bass" lke Janet and me going off on the "horns". Oh well. I'm glad someone is enjoying it This album is now on permanent rotation on my iPod.

paisleypark4 said Thanx for replyin. This was fun to listen to...Yall got more jams from 87? If you scroll up a little you'll see that our song (full title: "Luv Thang (I Just Want Yo')" ) was inspired by true events I never really did another complete song.... just riffs and ideas that died when my Ensoniq sequencing keyboard's battery died. I did write a slow song for Lisa my co-writer for her birthday simply titled "Lisa" (which is weird cuz there is a Prince outtake called that too which I didn't know til years later)..... but it's just solo piano. She found the tape of it recently and made me a copy but I'm very critical of my timing (I was playing it live, with no quantizing or sequencing I think). BTW..... today I'm really digging: The Hague City, Come Get some, and Pose! Especially the synth horns on Pose. J.Dodson...would love to know what you were you doing there. I just get funky on the Korg board! If I remember the sound right, the sound is called synthasymphonic and I funk up the bend wheel on it. I'm glad you like it! Pose was one of those songs that just kinda popped in my head and I wrote the lyrics and recorded it in less than an hour.

This "little project" was put together out of sheer fun. Plain and simple. Just a jam session if you will from folks all over the place. There was nothing "monumental" or "groundbreaking" that anyone, individual or as a group was trying to achieve. The initial post several months back was a question to all the .org artists that if they had something in their own song vaults that either was trying to achieve a certain purple sound or just came out that way that they never wanted to use in their own compilations, to put together a CD of these songs as a gift to prince.org site members. Later came the name. A no brainer really. Every musician goes through their growing pains in searching, learning that sound that moved them to begin with to "Quest" their own unique goals to move and put a groove to someone else. This was never to be taken as seriously that I feel you perceive us to be claiming. This Is Nothing that we are trying shop to a record label or even paisley park for that matter. Just a collection of recordings that we slapped together out of fun, put a sticker on it and said, "here ya go, prince.org" By no means is anyone claiming this to be the latest and greatest. However, if people REALLY dug it, then "Hey Frickin' HEY!" Original? no ... Creative? Well, that's subjective to the listener and the degree of musician. If you dig more into the individuals within this forum, you'll see quite a bit of variety in styles, taste and levels of musicianship. We try to help each other out in growing within our own individual crafts. For some it's the recording process, some it's sampling, and a many others, songwriting. Some artists in here are already quite established in their respective fields. BUT NOBODY ever claims superiority over another in this joint nor claims to have authority over another. Like I said. It's all in fun. You can make some good friends in this place as well as learn a lot from folks with like interests in creative expression. Thus ".org Artist Community". Fusing that creative flow with actual skill is a process that does not happen overnight. The internet and message boards such as this gives opprotunity for folks to learn from each other on their own time and better yet for free! Music and art school is not cheap ya know. There is a common ground here just like all the other forums on this site. Musicians or aspiring musicians can be fans too, right? Really, don't look into this any farther than what it is and that is: just a bunch of people having fun on a website. Nothing more. Nothing less. Personally, I'd rather see people try to express their ideas in some form of art than complain about the dribble that's on the market today. Prince.org provides a very cool and honest audience. People will actually stop and take a listen to your stuff here and that's all any of us are looking to get out of it. You are going to like it or not. Be fair in your critiques. In fact, give an actual critique instead of shunning someone's hard work and remember you have folks from all diferent backgrounds in actual music knowledge. The effort is what is outstanding, without a doubt. You cannot put someone down for engaging in a playtime exorcise. It takes a lot of balls to share this kind of stuff. Trust me I know. I freeze when that mic is on. Peace, motherf*cker! (I'M JOKING, I'M JOKING!) All Rights Reserved. |
