Never used one.

Supposedly Hendrix went from a Fuzz Face to this.
(to hear Mike Matthews, the founder of Electro-Harmonix tell it.)

For some "unbiased" opinions go here...

...and then pinpoint the exact model you've got.

From what I know Jimi would use the big muff live, I think he used the big muff on the band of gypsy’s fillmore new years show. As far as the famous guitar sounds basis I would say it has a Sabbath, Funkadelic’s Super Stupid heavy sound. I heard it through a Marshall and it sounds great, I play it through a fifteen watt Crate and it sounds like it is about to bust! I need at least five more watts. Real heavy sound, and the sustain is a real treat. It only has three knobs, volume, sustain, tone, not much of a middle sound from what I hear but I like to set the tone low. My chops are ok so I really shouldn't be messing with this stuff, but I heard my friend play it, and he does the Hendrix thing( damn good guitar player), he owns the Russian made Muff which has a darker tone, so I made sure I picked up the Russian made import. The Russian made is a bit cheaper (even though the guy at the guitar place tried to hustle me) and it is less noisy than the American version. I dig it.

ok he didn't use it at the Phillmore, you can hear Jimi use the Big Muff at the end of the South Saturn Delta version of Message To Love ( Message To the Universe, Message to Love) I am almost 100% sure that he used the big muff here
