Whew, CD party a success, I'm pooped. Let's see.
Recap: Last week, I found out that - the cds would be shipped on MONDAY after the gig - my web site crashed, all data lost (newsletter emails, posts, etc) But hey, roll with the punches, right? augh. I freaked out and burned 60 (SIXTY) copies of the CD, printed labels that said "Special Limited Release - August 27" yada yada - made them a special disc thing. I got paper cuts, sliced my middle finger with a razor blade, my fingertips are black from ink, but by gum, I got 60 discs printed out. The entire band couldn't all get together for one last practice, so I practiced with half the band on friday, and half again on saturday, at the bar, 2 hours before the gig. Anyhow - just telling you, WOW what a stressful weekend leading up to the show. After that second rehearsal, I raced home to change and then head back to the bar. We're sposed to go on at 10, and I pulled up at 9:45 on my purple motorcycle, with the tele strapped to my back, in my purple trenchcoat - oh - I kid... (you religious types will appreciate this part). Pulling around the last curve to the bar, I said a prayer to God thanking him for getting me this far in my life - that I had my own show, with my name on the marquee, promoting a CD that I recorded, and I didn't care how many people showed up or how many CDs I sold, thank You for letting me see this day. So, anyhoo, I got there and the place was decently attended. It wasn't the standing-room-only, turning-people-away crowd that I'd drooled over in my dreams, but every table was taken, people were standing at the bar, yelling over each other to be heard - all in all, maybe 70 people? (the place holds MAYBE 120 tops, so that's a good crowd). I came in thru the back instead of through the front door so I could take in the people a little at a time instead of all my friends jumping me all at once. (not EGOTISTICAL here - I'm sayin, they were all looking forward, so I could see people and hug em, shake hands and stuff, as I walked towards the stage.) it was awesome. AWESOME. I saw some old faces, and saw some folks I'd never seen before. There was one couple - middle-aged black folks, who sat at their table for the entire 3-hour show, and then got up and left afterwards. I have no clue who they were, but for whatever reason, it stuck in my head. We TORE IT UP. Got up and opened with "I wannabe the one" - I got everybody to clap their hands and it was just me and the guitar singing until the whole band whumped in, and WOW seeing people's faces light up when it kicked off - it was priceless. I'll have other gigs but this was so special. Let's see - one of the highlights was singing "Can i Get Some Lovin" - it's my long slow babymaking, "Do Me Baby"/"International Lover" tune - with this long-winded pickup speech in the middle. I kept forgetting my place, getting distracted, making jokes to the crowd like "you look so good tonight baby - no - no - not you honey - the fine gentleman behind you" it was awesome. All in all, I think I sold maybe 30 CDs, maybe more, the band did great, the volume was painful by the end of the night, and the club owner booked me for more shows, but made me promise to not cuss so much. (I really do get tourettes when I get up on stage with the MFs and GDs and all kind of stuff). Great night. That's that. I'm drop-dead tired. It was videotaped, if I can figure out how, I'll try to convert some of it and post it. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Hey no sweat Tal - I'm always happy for the people who did show up, and don't sweat the folks that didn't make it - things happen, it's no big thang.
You'll catch me at the arena-world-dome show next year. You're on the list, I promise. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Beau,
It sounded mf-ing sweet! We're in the process of recording songs for a CD, but haven't gotten very far because we're booked just about every weekend, etc. The one guy in the band doesn't even swear AT ALL and I keep wondering if, after every show, he goes home and washes his ears out after hearing the things we say. The last show I even pulled my pants down around my ankles for a song because it was so damned hot in there. Yep, I've got the potty mouth...

I was just wondering - "hmm. should I drop my pants? would THAT get my damn name in the paper?" www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!
