which is better software? protools or acidmusic?

i'm learning how to convert songs from tape to mp3 via computer.

someone told me Protools was best and someone else mentioned Acidmusic. anyone here familiar with either of these software packages?

I think you might want to start on which platform you prefer. MAC OSX or a Windows machine.

For what you are looking for, any old recording software will work to bring in things from tape as long as you have an input jack on your computer. Are you looking to just mix or record and mix? Are you trying to bring in things from a cassette or dat and ADAT?

BTW, protools is not just software, but a whole mess of things.

thanks! i'm not up to mixing things on the computer yet - although obviously the sound would be better in digital format. i think i'll go the rookie way, mix on the minideck first (TASCAM cassette) and just run a single line out/into the 'puter to create a sound file. there's already something on my computer that permits 60 seconds of recording installed, but that won't quite do it for length.

someone recommended acid 3.0 software for basics. it's supposed to be easy to use. btw i'm on windows. thanks for listening

protools is mainly recording software, record vocals, musicians, sound effects mixing, etc.

I think acid is mainly for mixing up loops. More for dance music, dj type stuff, or quick music composition.
