Question for Mac Musicians My Imac G5 is dying. It is has some of the issues in these forums.
http://engadget.com/entry...193034430/ http://www.gigaom.com/200...-meltdown/ http://forums.macnn.com/s...p?t=262088 I would like to ask what you guys use? A Power Mac G5 is quite costly and I was hoping I'd be able to use all the tracks in an MBOX with a G4. I don't know whether to get a notebook or powerbook or powermac g4. Any help would be appreciated.

Moderator | First I've heard of it. Goodness. Great. I just got one of these not too long ago. Not feeling very hopefull.
I use a G4 powermac and it's just fine. I hear the G4 powerbooks do really well. I have a G3 powerbook and it gets a little bogged down doing audio recording when I have more than 6 or 8 tracks. Then again it's only the 500 MB RAM version. All Rights Reserved. |

I hope this problem doesn't happen to anyone else.
Thanks. | |

Frank just got a dual 2.7 GH power MAC G5 and the thing has a liquid cooling unit in it! All Rights Reserved. |

Apple is an absolutely disgusting company. Their sheer arrogance over the last few years seems to manifest itself particularly in releasing flawed product. I mean, let's be honest; they make shoddy PCs and charge a hell of a lot extra for the Mac OS.
By the way, I'm a Mac owner (noisy bastard mirrored door G4 to be precise); I seriously doubt I'll get another one.

By the way, I'm a Mac owner (noisy bastard mirrored door G4 to be precise); I seriously doubt I'll get another one. Can't say I've ever had a problem with an Apple. I have 3. Those articles have me worried about my G5 iMAC though. After reading them, they seem to be consistant with people leaving them on all the time. A lot of power (heat) in a small space would obviously cause problems. So ... No excuse for the design team. I was even warned from a trusted apple tech buddy of mine when I bought it that something just doesn't seem right about that model but I needed the extra machine for the video jobs I was getting and I wasn't ready to throw down on the tower duel chip model with the cooling unit. This way, I could render video projects and burn DVD's on one machine and do website junk on the other. I wanted to wait until I had the dough to buy it MAXED OUT with the 8 Gigs of memory and all. Cause that puppy was made for multitasking. When I get the tower, I'll move the iMAC home for my family. I've already got the iSight cameras ready for those late nights so we can video conference. That will be fun. My machine is still working great so far! All Rights Reserved. |

You're right.
Because I did leave mine on 24/7 and there is a lot in the display - the processor and the fan. Plus it's summer so that adds up to overheating. Well, at least this can give everybody a heads up to shut off their machines or make sure it's well ventilated. I think the G5 tower is the way to go. (The cost, ouch!) The Imac G5 is still great. Just shut it off and keep the room as cool as you can. [Edited 8/2/05 19:38pm]

This is such a timely discussion, 'cause I just moved my G5 (I look at it as an investment) into my bedroom, where it's a lot cooler. Haven't had any problems yet; in fact, I don't think I've explored everything this unit has to offer. I'm about to start, though My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

It seems that one of the boards on the early iMacs many not have been manufactured as well as it could have been which is leading to many reports of dead, and dying, iMacs.
Hopefully it's just with the first run of the models. All Rights Reserved. |

Hi,
I spoke to a Apple tech here and the IG5's that they have been shipping in the last two months are different and more stable. The first run models are using parts on their logic board from Korea which cause the unit to have a 30% failure rate. The best solution before buying new machine is get Applecare then bring it to a local Apple Store and have them fix it. The hardball solution is make Apple give me another machine. Which others have done or threaten to file suit. Apple quietly gave them a new machine.
