I WOULD DIE 4 U. Yes. THAT song. Happy Father's Day to Yamomma, Talmuzic, Funkaholic, JD and all the other org artist daddies.
The wife gave me the day off. Let me sleep in, do whatever I wanted while she took the boys out. So, of course, I watched Purple Rain. Hey, whatever. It's my day. I've seen the movie a million times, but today, watching/hearing this song brought tears to my eyes - when you think of it as a message to your kids, (well, MOST of the lyrics anyhow). So, with the rest of the day, I did this. www.funkmusician.com/iwoulddie4u.mp3 www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Moderator | YOU GOT TO SLEEP IN ??? !!!
I chose to go fishing with my father-in-law at 5am. Today, I feel extra crispy from being in the sun a little too long. WOW Your take on this is all good and all you. I'm getting quite envious of your productive roll as of lately. Thanks so much for the Father's Day shout and I glad you had an awesome one as well. All Rights Reserved. |

A co-worker commented that, after hearing the song for 22 years, she's got that version burned into her head, so this one takes a minute to warm up to - even just to get over the feeling, "oh, the record player's on 33 - needs to be bumped up to 45" (that's turntable talk for you young kids).
After hearing the song over and over and over yesterday, I didn't get that at all, but this morning yeah, I spose I can see that. I don't care. Really - I love this version. I'm glad you guys like it too. It's almost a no-brainer - why hasn't anybody turned that version into a groovy sway-along jam like this? hahah - do you hear my cel phone beeping during the "wooooo" part? Everytime I hear that, I think I have a call coming in now. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

Well done, Beau! In one day? Crazy!
I enjoyed this so much! The only reason why I would still prefer Prince's version is that the original groove does the lyrics more justice.

Prince kinda does it this way too, in the extended live version. Hey Beau, did you do that consciously? It sounds like a slowed down version of the intro in the live video.

Extended live version? Which one?
I've never been a big fan of the purple album... Maybe I have to re-listen to some things. BTW: Even Prince can do wrong!

I think it's from the Purple Rain Tour video. The Purple Rain 20th Anniversay double dvd has it in the video section.

Oh god I WISH I wasn't old enough to understand what she meant.... There was recently that dance cover of this song (Space Cowboy was it..?) and I have never heard a good cover of this....until now. You did what every good cover should do - you didn't copy the song, you made it your own. Now let's hear you do Peach

Maybe I copped the structure of the extended version - lifting the rhythm guitar and the (painfully off) whooooo's, but that's about it. The 30-minute ramblified version is mad-crazy with the business and percussions and sax solos and stuff. Vocally, I didn't intentionally lift nothin, but you know, you hear a song for 22 years, it might burn itself into your skull here and there.
Peach is probably one of my least favorite Prince tunes, so, unfortunately, no, you won't be hearing my cover of that tune, any time soon. Maybe it's the Fred Flintstone samples, maybe it's the weak guitar tones, I dunno. There's just something about that song that has me reaching for the skip-button everytime!! (But I'm not saying it's a bad song - just saying, I ain't a fan) Rock on with your bad self. I'm going back to sleep now. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

I got a first listen to this song today, and I think Prince should sing over this version. This is FONKAY! So funky and smooth- this groove is more funk than the original. I love the bass, the guitar, and the drums.
Excellent work, Beau! | |

Well - don't get me wrong. The bass line from Flashlight, Boogie On Reggae Woman - THOSE are keys playing the bass line and they are deep deep funk.
However. A keyboard trying to SOUND like a bass guitar? THAT is the theme to Seinfeld. So, you tell me. Flashlight, or Seinfeld. I forget - which one is funky? HAHAHA I Kid. It aint how you get there, it's what you got. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!
