WHAT HAPPENED 2? Where are all of the people who used to frequent this place? There used to be a time when I could barely get a word in edgewise. I think the problem started when the NFO controversy kicked in and divided the troups. Let's get this thang swinging again and fire these threads up with some songs and rhetoric (talk).

I'm knee-deep in studio jive right now. I'm taking this morning to wade through a lot of the posts up on here, trying to answer questions (that I CAN...) and maybe hear some new music.
Since my boss has busted me a million times for surfing the org, I'm definitely on the site a whole lot less - and most of the time, I'm posting updates on my studio progress. I was thinking the same thing Tal - it's slowed down, but patience man, these things go in waves. School just let out, maybe Vina's up at her hippie-camp, Funkaholic is looking for a job, Manki is out on tour, papercrayon-purplewaistcoat is in NYC underground stirring things up. JD is running his campaign for mayor, Yamomma is ALWAYS around, but he might be tied up right now too. Next weekend, I'm going back into the basement to record some new music... I gotta say, spending more than 4 days on any given song is just frustrating to me now. I'm used to spitting out a jam, MAYBE re-doing the vocals, and then excusing the rest as, "hey I recorded that in my basement. shut up". But now, it's a real studio, lots of my own money pouring into it, so, it has to sound perfect or else, um, or else, oh, I remember, or else I'll wonder why I spent so much money on something that sounds like I did it in my basement! Okay. I'm off to work. Rock on Tal. I want to hear some of those new recordings. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I KNEW it was some get-in-touch-with-your-inner-self thing through the ways of chanting, or smokin up, or drinking or some nonsuch. So when are you going to sing some new trax? So when are you going to sing some new trax? It's funny, I haven't yet tested out what I've learned on my trax... It kinda became unimportant to me in a way. I felt sooooo blissful when we sang the first Kirtan that I thought "this is what music is about: connecting to the divine." I had this sense that I didn't have to record or release an album. I'll come down from my high soon, I'm sure. It's all about integrating what I've learned into daily life. I'm just absorbing so much info right now. I just found someone who teaches Hindustani vocal here in San Diego. Yay! http://www.classicaleast.com/

I'm here.....just busy.
About the Mayor thing..... I decided not to run. My family and friends need me more, and I need to focus on the music and Church when I have my spare time. I had the support of a major political party and I even became a district leader for the one party. But, in the end, some things are best when given to God to handle- I have come to the realization that one human can only do so much, and the rest is God's to do. Now, about the New Funk Order..... In reply to Tal's message and others.... Yes, a couple years back the NFO went through a rough spell. Some things were said that shoudn't have been said and all guilty parties have since apologized, moved on, and are getting along great. The NFO is just as transparent and impartial as it was in the beginning, probably even moreso now than before. Everyone has complete equality in the NFO. There isn't one person who is above another. Even though a few of us put the thing together, we are just as equal as the newest member. Yamomma and the NFO guy have been completely neutral even while doing nearly all of the site design and funding the site out of their own pockets. I want to clear the air here. There is absolutely no sore spots regarding the NFO with me, nor should there be with anyone else, because the NFO is TRULY for everyone as a community, not a corporation. I hope that this will smooth out the road a bit. Talk to you all soon, Your friend, Jason [Edited 6/1/05 14:25pm]

My excuses:
1. Busy 2. Doing more local gigs w/15 year old bass playing phenoms. 3. Busy 4. Prepping for a Jazz festival in France doing a Louis Armstrong Tribute with my Tribal Disorder partner and best friend Longineu Parsons. This gig has given me the excuse to indulge myself a bit and invest in a Jazz style axe... ...which should be waiting for me when I get to work today. 5. Busy 6. Unfinished colab commitments 7. otan said: theAudience said: you wish you were me: [/url] HOLY MOLEY! Man oh man, what is that? It's a true left-handed Jay Turser JT-136 (3 1/2 inch). No L-5 money so this had to do. The most inexpensive, yet decently constructed, Jazz style box I could find. I've been checking their instruments out at the past 3 NAMM shows. They've also been suggested to me by a few other players. This upcoming gig requires not only a certain sound but a look as well. Once I get it out of the shop Thursday (strings/nut reversed, fat strings w/wound G), comes the task of breaking it and myself in so that I can play it (minimal bends, etc). I was going to drop a Benedetto in the neck but i'm gonna wait. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I used to hang around here a bit, as far as I remember. Got a Music therapy group up and running again and doing a bit of recording and performing.
Not an old-school-orger; but note a bit of a lull, or slump. Things 'll start pumping again . Interesting reading / listening to otan's studio experience's, (certainly a different sound compared to your home rec.'s Leaner and looser, but early days yet.) Vina's turned hippy...cool Be nice to hear some jazz/warm tone from you tA. Take care all , ..... ~PClinuxOS~ I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ...

Jay Turser? I've been looking at those for a few years, wondering if they're decent. Let me know how the thing plays once you've worked on it awhile. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

I am without gear to record songs, I am pretty much just with my computer and a guitar. No keys, no bass, so i depend on the bandmates coming over to lay down something. But i will only post songs now when I think that its sounds really good. Boring times!

Much the same situation here .You appreciate what happens musically a lot more when it's not a party every night, but yeh, it's boring.
