To be fair, I didnt make it available for download, so no one can download it then go sell it, in which case I'd be in big trouble.
Streaming audio is essentially downloading too. Nothing would stop someone from streaming the song to his computer, put it on CD and sell it. I've had an issue like this before (although not music related) and believe me, being able to get unauthorized copyrighted content on your computer, be it by a download link or a stream link or any other way, is breaking the rules. Remember, not only you can get into trouble, soundclick doesn't want you to do it because *they* can get into trouble too since they're serving the content and making money from it (be it indirectly). Now back to the song I like almost everything about this cover, the vocals, the feel, the instruments. But there's one thing that puts me off: it's the 'ploink ploink' sound which the tune starts with and which goes on through the entire song. Not only is it an ugly and cold sound (esp. compared to the rest of the instrumentation, which is excellent), but it's way too loud too for my taste. But other than that, great job! It's always good to hear someone do a cover song and make it their own.
I don't have any problems playing this more than a few hundred times. Thanks for sharing.

And besides, the dude's in Panama! I'm sure his lawyer is close enough to send us a letter of some kind. I just wouldn't flaunt it too much. It's pretty blatant to put it on his message board. I know Cloud9Mission got a talkin to about his Purple Rain cover. Now if you want to upload the mp3 to your soundclick page, and post that link, that's another story... [Edited 5/6/05 15:42pm]

The WOMEN in my life make me CRAZY!!! How do they always keep a level head? I'll never understand. The post is now gone from that official purple site thing. It was actually the first time i went into the forums and was really surprised to find out that the moderaters were colder than a xxxxx xxx in xxxxx. (oh, wait, I can say January, right?) Bon jour, Lady Blue.
I heard it. I really liked it. My two cents... Much has been said about the coldness of your cover. But I think in some ways you could take that as a compliment. I recall one of the most recurring points of comment about the original -- and the entire SOTT album -- was its desolate sound as compared to the more lush Prince & the Revolution tracks. Aside from the fact our man apparently did everything on this track alone, it's a millennial lament -- it's supposed to be a brooding, unsettling drone! You added your own New Wave melancholy, and I think it sounds almost creepy... which is good! More mixing will add richness (and slightly hush that keyboard), but don't altogether lose that frigidity and repetitiveness. Your voice, as always, is right-on. But one thing: Remember this song is heavily blues-influenced, so particularly during the whole "It's silly, no, when a rocket ship explodes..." bridge, you might wanna let loose a bit more. This stuff hurts you, so let us hear it! Good stuff, Vina, as usual. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Grace said: Man, many of you all are being too much of "music snobs". I think many of you should gently remove the stick from your behind and avoid getting it stuck there again. I mean, this is a very nice cover, much better than many I have heard over the years.
Quit bickering over stuff being "too loud, mic too hot, too repetitive, etc". Not everyone can be perfect, perfectly on key, have top dollar equipment, etc. Have you ever heard of the genre "Casiocore"? I bet some of you think that's horrible. But, many people, who can't afford bigger equip are trying to express their creativity. Constructive criticism is only constructive if the people you are criticizing actually have the knowledge or ability to change the things you are criticizing them about. Ciao, Suzie co-sign I couldn't have put that better myself. 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!
