Smoky and sultry with that dangerous undercurrent~ definitely in line with the vibe of the song. Lots of fun to hear what org friends can do musically (unlike me ~ as much as I love to listen, I just can sing a note). Thank you so much for sharing and I can;t wait to hear more!!!!!

Man, many of you all are being too much of "music snobs". I think many of you should gently remove the stick from your behind and avoid getting it stuck there again. I mean, this is a very nice cover, much better than many I have heard over the years.
Quit bickering over stuff being "too loud, mic too hot, too repetitive, etc". Not everyone can be perfect, perfectly on key, have top dollar equipment, etc. Have you ever heard of the genre "Casiocore"? I bet some of you think that's horrible. But, many people, who can't afford bigger equip are trying to express their creativity. Constructive criticism is only constructive if the people you are criticizing actually have the knowledge or ability to change the things you are criticizing them about. Ciao, Suzie

Hey Grace, it's all good!
On another note... My friend told me last night that the timbre of my voice is very similar to Prince's! I dunno... at first I was like "really?" But I think my delivery is pretty good, if I do say so myself. Not perfect, but pretty cool... I'd love to make it even better though.

i think it sounded really good. i even left it in my itunes so it'll eventually just pop onto my ipod when its on random. the music was cool and the vocals sound kinda sexy (but "sexy" isn't the word i'm looking for).
everyone has their own taste and its cool if you don't dig it but, tommysoul, go buy some class.

this is good. yeah.. prince was on some new shit when he wrote this so it's hard to capture musically but i found the end groove more gripping than the original. and vina, you know your voice is the choice

Hey this is cool! I kinda like it, the music is not that bad too I think (although it's hard to beat the original), and Vina's vocals are the bomb, these harmonies totally fit the track. Good work! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I think you did a great job of covering this classic. I'd like to hear a re-mix with your vocals more up the front VB ; like in ya face ! Some nice harsh, or rather, fittingly powerful sounds . Fantastic .
But that's all, equalize the levels on each track , kick your voice up front, and you got a hit.( which it already is ) ~PClinuxOS~ I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ...

Ok, here it is! nayroo2002 asked for a singer on his cover of Sign the Times. I thought it would be fun to give it a try, since I always sing a harmony with Prince when I listen to this tune. I really liked nayroo's rendition as well. He gave it just enough of a twist to sound a bit different, yet stayed true to the original vibe of the song. Enjoy... http://www.soundclick.com...amusic.htm Any feedback/ suggestions would be appreciated! I hardly put any effects on the vocals: a tiny bit of compression on the main lead vocal and a tiny bit of reverb on the harmony backup vocal. Other than that, it's pretty raw. No eq. [Edited 4/29/05 13:16pm] [Edited 4/30/05 16:44pm] Very inventive. I would only suggest more vocal nuances sweety. In ref to the music production I would have done more with the bridge. Just my humble suggestion. But I do like the guitar improv. Be good!

hey Vina!
I did (finally) get to listen to your collaborative version of SOTT.. I liked it! it has a sort of.. "cold", "distant" feel to it - namely the vocal & the backing vocal - but I did like it. I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS.. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
hmm..i dunno...it sounded a bit cold. personally the heavy guitar parts were a bit intrusive and high up in the mix. the solo kind of goes off on one and sounds directionless.
and the vocals sound empty. i never did like that effect that ppl use.

Hi VIna!
Had a listen to your version of SOTT and really enjoyed it. Like the sound of your voice! Bit of bad news though - you may already be aware.. was just about to upload another of my tracks to my soundlick page and saw the following in the terms and conditions section .. Can I upload a cover song or remix? SoundClick does not permit copyrighted audio samples or artwork from movies, television programs, videos, games, radio or CDs to be uploaded without prior written permission from the copyright holder(s). If you are uploading a remix of another artist’s recording, you must obtain prior written permission from both the owner of the original recording and the owner of the underlying musical composition. Tracks determined by SoundClick to be “pirated” recordings will be deleted immediately and the artist page subject to permanent deletion. Please note, not only are you responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions, licenses and consents prior to posting any content to SoundClick, you may be held liable for any and all costs and expenses (including legal fees) incurred by SoundClick as a result of your unauthorized use of copyrighted materials. Basically, you should only upload songs that you completely created, wrote, and performed yourself. Does the term ' cover song ' include whole new versions of a song that someone else wrote? Maybe it isnt relevant to your version of SOTT but I wanted to let you know about their rules so you don't get into any unnecessary trouble! Much Love 2 U Vina, PB " the embassy shut to keep the fools out " - as above, so below.

Hey PB, thanks for listening. I was just groovin to your music on my way home from work today.
Yes, I see that warning every time I upload a song as well. Lots of people around here have posted their Prince covers on soundclick, and just ahead of us on the chart is a version of Lose my Breath by Destiny's Child, which basically sounds like a guy raping over the exact released recording. I'll take it down once it drops out of the top 10. At this point I'm curious how far it will go. [Edited 5/3/05 20:11pm]

Believe me, I seriously pondered this for awhile before posting the original instrumental. But, as far as I can read into the rules, you shouldn't use unauthorized samples, although they seem to let that slide as well.
so, who the hell knows!!? it's not like we're cashing in on the song. It's kinda like playing fantasy football, except there's no money involved Thanks for listening, PB! Hey, Vina! Lemme see the stats on this thang! (hits n such) Schöne Grüße!!! "Whatever skin we're in

Hi Vina and nayroo,
Yes I guess it would be different if you were making money offa it. I remember being really nervous about uploading one of my songs called EMBASSY POWER which has both Prince AND Michael Jackson lyrics in it. To be fair, I didnt make it available for download, so no one can download it then go sell it, in which case I'd be in big trouble. Copyright laws are sometimes a real pain in the arse, but I guess they exist for a reason. Keep dancin! pb " the embassy shut to keep the fools out " - as above, so below.
