Apple's GarageBand and Trent Reznor

From: http://www.tuaw.com/2005/...nor-rules/

Steve Jobs should forget about all his elbow-rubbing with U2 and John Mayer. Trent Reznor just did one of the coolest things an artist could do, and he did so in a specifically Apple-centric way. He released Nine Inch Nails' new single, The Hand That Feeds, as a 70MB stuffed DMG file containing the entire song in Garageband format with a note from Trent himself.

In the included note, Reznor writes, "For quite some time I've been interested in the idea of allowing you the ability to tinker around with my tracks - to create remixes, experiment, embellish or destroy what's there. . . . What I'm giving you in this file is the actual multi-track audio session for 'the hand that feeds' in GarageBand format. . . . Drag the file over to your hard disk and double click it. Hit the space bar. Listen. Change the tempo. Add new loops. Chop up the vocals. Turn me into a woman. Replay the guitar. Anything you'd like."

Amazingly cool. I'm going to get started turning Trent into a woman! You should do the same; however, mind the words of Trent: "There are some copyright issues involved, so read the notice that pops up. Giving this away is an experiment. I'm interested to see what comes of it, what issues are raised and what the results are."

Also, it seems to run on Garageband 1, despite Reznor's warning otherwise.

For those with a MAC can download it here: http://www.nin.com/current/

I'm not really a fan of Mr. Reznor as I found this in the apple news.

BUT WHAT A FIGGIN NOVEL IDEA!

I wish everyone had a MAC and GarageBand. It's pretty versitle for creating good demos, In my opinion. I'm reading where bands are creating entire albums in it though. You have 8 live tracks and as many midi or sampled tracks as you like. As I've found, you can use the 8 live tracks and mix them down to one and keep on going till the cows come home. How cool would it be to have a file like this up for download and we all take turns groovin on it?

All I have is a G4 which doesn't have the processor speed to run Garageband. What sucks is after you did that clav song with Sound track, I went and bought it only to find out it doesn't work on my G4. Whatever, I've got Sonar Producer edition and that's really all I need. I just want to check out how Trent captures that amazing drum sound and dress him up like a woman.

I mean...make him sound like a woman lol

REALLY?

I have GarageBand on my G3 laptop as well. Although a little slower, I found the performace to be more a memory issue. The processor seems to handle it though. You should be able to add more memory for very little $. Unless you have a laptop, you can install memory sticks very easily yourself. When it comes to laptops, there are just too many dern screws, not to mention remembering where all them screws go back.

I cracked the screen on my laptop, so I think I'm going to have someone else put another one on than do it myself.
