mechanical license for a Prince song? I'm trying to get a mechanical license to release my Prince song on my CD.
I've searched HarryFox.com, which says the mechanical license is not available. I went to UNI, to find out that they've only got his top-10 songs available, online, for licensing. Has anybody ever done this? Where the hell do I go? I thought any and every song out there is available, but, what, do I actually have to get the okay FROM Prince now? Or UNI? Or WB or who? I may be way off on this, BUT:
iirc mecahnical royalties have to do with the actual recording: they pay for duplication of the physical master. If you record the song yourself and don't sample the original, this would mean the mechanical license doesn't apply, only the intellectual property ie publishing rights... | |
