Let us compile the Prince sounds here once and for all

So, search doesn't really work. Every so often someone comes to this forum asking "how is this or that sound made?"

So I suggest that we post them all in one big thread. If you know where ANY of the sounds come from in ANY prince song post it here. For example, we know that many of the 80's drum sounds came out of the Linn Drum models.

Etc etc etc.

Lets see what we can come up with.

- The guitar sound on When Doves Cry, amongst others, is made using a Boss Octave pedal. (and the intro is NOT played backwards)

- The screaming guitar sound in Computer Blue is feedback from a Boss Flanger pedal.

- The weird detuned guitar sounds as heard a lot on The Undertaker are made using a Digitech Whammy Pedal.

- The wah-wah-like guitar sound on Boys and Girls is actually an early guitar synth.

It IS true that Prince loves his Boss pedals.

What about keyboards?

Keyboards? He used the Oberheim OB-8 or OB-X a lot in the 80's. Those fat synth basses and synth horns come from the Oberheim. I wish I had one...

You can find a lot of OB stuff in software these days but it isn't the real real thing. So to try to replicate sounds perfectly can be... difficult.
