I ain't been around in a bit, but what a fun topic to cross while visiting here again. GREAT FREAKIN TRACKS!!! Hope to hear all of em tonight when I get home..

This one is called Sophisticated Mama, very Jeff Beck flavored bit of funk.

I'll kick this collective top of the funkpops off with my personal favorite.

I like this one because it's two verses and a stinky heavy bass of umph.

Still a very cool track, I love that bass and your vocals are tight as usual.

I bet you have more funky (and uptempo) tracks than this one, but this is a very good ballad!

Okay. Here is one that I love to pump up in the car when I go to Ohio.

Turn up the bass on your computer and listen. This song is called "Do Something Freaky".

Go here to the music page and download the song or listen:

I suck, I dusted off all of the instruments and started recording this weekend but not FUNK. Music for a video game for a friend of mine who's in school for creating video games and I'm doing the soundtrack. It's more like ambient sounds and effects than real music but whateva.

Now, I've got school back on my back and a ton of other stuff between me and the funk. 4 more weeks of this semester and I'll be back. The live drum sound is mic'd and it sounds great, shit, all of the toys sound great.

peace

I clicked on lo-fi stream this morning and it instantly went into MusicMatch's player, so it should be okay to stream now.

Don't get down on yourself. I have been in kind of a "funk" (so to speak) lately. I haven't touched the keyboard in about two months. I have been so busy with about 20 different things that I haven't had any time to actually make the songs lately. I have been writing, though. I have a folder of complete and incomplete songs, along with song ideas that will last me years even if I were to stop thinking right now. You'll find time. I'll lend you the flashlight to find your funk!

Wow, "She's Too Rich For Me" really hits me listening to it again. Very tight version, really funky man. That bass is kickass and the sound of the recording is very good. How did you get it sounding that well?

Cool track Jason, very funky and minimalistic. I think it's a very good groove and the recording is nice and clear too.

Thanks man. That's the second version (there's five now. you know how it is - refine refine refine). The recording was on my Zoom 8-track, using their drum machine, I think. It might be the Zoom 123, but I'm pretty sure it's the built in number. The bass is a yamaha P-bass wannabe, going though the Johnson jStation amp modeller (kicks that ass) with just a hint of overdrive and some serious compression.

I think the thing that makes this version the best is the guitar on the left - lifting from Sly's "Thankyoufalettin ...", where there's one guitar just hitting the root chord on the one, and scratching polyrhythm the rest of the time. I THINK that's in Thankyoufa... it might be from Sing a Simple Song, I can't remember.

Also, being the second version, there's me doing the basic layout of the song, but still trying stuff out, like the backing vox doing the chorus over the harmonica solo - it was an accident that worked. So, NOW, when I'm re-recording the thing, I'm trying to include all these previous little accidents and now they all sound very forced, (which, hey, they ARE). There's things about the other versions that I like, but this one just has the best groove I think.

Lastly, the harp with the hard stereo-delay split helps it cut through the whole thing without having to sit on TOP of everything. I'm gonna start experimenting with my vocals doing that stuff.

You know, when the babies are out of diapers and can play a nintendo so I don't have to spend every waking moment chasing rugrats. Right now, I have no O time. It's all for the kids right now. Some dude came door to door, selling some "save the children" program, and I laughed, pointed to the two boys and said, "sorry, i'm already knee deep in my own'"save the children program' and it's costing me more than pennies a day"

Well. Gotta go do some laundry and wash some baby bottles. Keep the funk coming. If you want to improve your recording techniques, GO TO www.tapeop.com and subscribe to their magazine. IT IS FREE and it's just flat-out amazing, if you're into home studios and stuff.
