the first one looks amateurish.
the second one looks cheesy; you're holding a prince symbol and it's all purple so it seems like you're borrowing prince's style. originality is better, which is why i think the next one is great - it has style, good composition, interesting colour, confidence and sexiness. just my opinion!

okay if you want my HONEST opinion, they're all pretty bad from a professional perspective. try getting a professional to shoot pics of you.

Picture 5.  When I saw the first three, I wanted to see a pic of you looking down like that. You can use the more direct shots on the back or inside cover.

Alot of companies look at the picture and decide things b4 they even listen to the music...image is really important. You should try to be as professional as possible.Which means no bikini top shots unless you're banking more on your sexuality than the music...which is okay,but sometimes it can look unprofessional.Considering you're young like myself,I know that professional pictures can be expensive...A trick I learned is to approach or see if someone knows the photography students at a local college and see if they can hook you up in exchange for being one of their subjects...that is if you can't afford professional shots,which alot of people can't...even my head shots were $300 and that was cheap...I will also say that even the cheapest black and white picture can look professional taken outside in natural lighting,and I think they have disposable Black and white cameras...but if you're dead set on using one of your photos you showed us...I'd go with Vina and say number 5 its cute...even if you get professional pics done I think number 5 should be on the inside cover...it's more candid and reflective... [Edited 3/20/05 21:23pm] they are all way below commercial releasable standard if you ask me. nice ideas, but bad execution. but if one had to be picked, it would be number 5 for me. i can't believe you're all saying number 6. that is clearly one of the less successful ones....you can see a bit of acne scarring or something.....not to be mean, but it's not a great picture. but you should seriously do as NikkiH says and hire a student who's GOOD at what they do, if you can't fork out the $ for a professional hand. As I said, nice ideas, but they're just not of a high enough standard, in my humble opinion.

#8 is my new fav.
As far as the photos being amatuer, album covers are art no matter what someone deems "professional", take a look a the Blue Note album covers and some photos look like classics and others really look cheap. Just make sure you have good production with the graphics, typesetting, logos, etc. because if that is over-done or done half-assed then it will take away from the whole thing. | |
