Some help using Cubase VST 5.

I never used to have this problem... but my Midi isn't recording at all. I'm guessing some of my Midi settings are wrong. Can anybody tell me what everything should be set to on Midi Setup? Could it be something that's not selected on my Soundcard?

I can't understand why this is happening. If any kind soul familiar with Cubase could go through it with me, either on here or via email I'd be really, really grateful.

My email ad is dodwellmatt@hotmail.com

Thanks!

I haven't used Cubase a lot for years but I'll give it my best shot: (I've been in Cubase hell myself...)

Is it just that the midi isn't RECORDED or do you not get a midi in signal at all? You can see this on the transport bar, right hand side.
If you DO get a midi in signal but it isn't recorded, very probably some setting in cubase is wrong.:
are you sure you're recording on a midi (eg not audio) channel? Are you sure you've selected the right track?
If you have any other music software, check if that gets any midi input. Also load an older cubase song you've made and see if in that setting, you can still record midi.

Also, check if your midi out is still functioning properly (if so, this means that a lot of things ARE working well, if it isn't, a midi device problem becomes more likely)

If you don't get a midi in signal, a number of things could be wrong:
- your midi in device/soundcard isn't installed properly (check in windows if there's any conflict with this device. check for driver updates)
- your midi cable is broken
- your midi out device isn't sending any data or is muted or is sending data on the wrong channel.
- midi input is muted in your windows mixer.

If none of this helps, backup your music, midi and sound files and then re-install cubase. If that doesn't help, re-install your midi input device.

My 2cts... good luck and try the various cubase user groups on the web too (and FAQ's for your midi input device)
