Beginner guitarist stuck

Hi, I've been trying to teach myself guitar for a couple of months but I don't really know what I should be studying. Right now I know and can switch between these chords
(Major-C,D,E,A,G,F, Minor-C,G,E,A,D, 7-D,E,A,

I also have learned a little bit of theory (I can find notes on the fretboard)

Now what should I learn. I want to be able to eventually play solos, rythm, and accousic. I was thinking that I should learn scales, but which ones should I learn. Also I'm not very comfortable with a pick. I can strum with one, but when I pick single notes, I always hit the wrong one.

Do you have any tips for a beginner?

Thanks

Little Red Corvette would be a good one to learn. When u learn it tape your self playing the chords then practice making up you owm guitar solo over it.

Bassmaniac is spot on. The next thing you should do is learn lots of songs and riffs from your favorite records and just fool around on the instrument. That way you'll discover a lot of stuff by ear, which is the best way. Then later, to organise it all, you can dig into theory, scales etc a little deeper.

There are no real rules for a guitar solo or riff so long as it is in key and on time and has a feel. Keep us up tp date. There are some programs out like Guita Rig that will allow you to quickly record your chord progression and loop it so you can play over it. Cool thing about these is you can play along to and make up stuff to the master like prince and Jesse johnson. have fun

find yourself a good guitar teacher. It can save you a lot of frustration and time. A good teacher can advise you on many things to do with music ie fundamentals of guitar, techniques, equipment, different music genres etc

Thanks for the advice everyone biggrin . I found a website (I don't know if I'm allowed to post the url) that teaches through different songs. Right now I'm learning the intro solo for Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd (to learn tricks like slides and hammer ons) and am also learning a few scales.

Does this sound like a good way to learn?

Thanks again
