Piano tips

Hi I some basic chords on the guitar about 5 months ago, but I really want to learn how to play piano. The problem is I don't have enough money for lessons, so does anyone have any tips on getting started. I want to be good enough to read and play my favorite songs, and maybe write some music.

Buy book that "teaches" piano, and ask a little help from anyone you know that plays. FInd the chords that you know from guitar and play the songs you know in the guitar on the piano. i dont know anymore, eheh.

Basic piano is easy, traditional piano is difficult

by i agree with 7

Get a book, thats how i learned

basic principle is right hand plays melody, left hand plays chord progression, and or bassline

it means a level around adequate sight reading and manual dexterity, level 7 or 8 is competent. the exam papers can be found in a sheet music store or at a library, or maybe a local univeristy with a music department. get them, start slow (some have numbers for your fingers when the fingering is difficult) and build from there.

if you want to play piano i would buy a piano. sounds obvious, but you can learn how things work with a cheap midi keyboard attached to your computer and use the computer's sounds. but to play with feel, and achieve an all round ability, i would buy a second hand upright (tuned). then maybe get the piano software offered by pgmusic (some free lessons online) or mimic some player by recording them and playing it back, section by section. a minidisc is hepful here.
