Tired of music Hey guys, just a question, I am kinda tired at music. I went to SAo Paulo to visit mother and father and since I came back i barely touched the guitar, I am not even listening music, I dont feel like it. I am just playing games on computer, seeing movies and going to the beach. I just listen music in my car and it is shit like BOn Jovi . Interesting thing is, before the trip I was praticing guitar like 5 hours a day everyday and now it is not even 5 minutes. Has this ever happened to you?

I find that I'm a kid with ADD (attention deficit disorder) and I run from learning about music I know nothing about to playing the guitar to the drums and then I watch a Gene Krupa dvd. I fall asleep and next thing I know I'm off to work and my free time is taken up and then school has been kicking my ass, then I'm back to the drumset. No, I don't do caffeine, it's this times 10 and nothing moves forward.
That's what works for me, learning about what I care about.

I used to think that if I didn't play guitar everyday I'd forget or loose it. Sometimes it's good to give it a break, and go a different direction; if it's just tedious and uninteresting. You'll pick it up again with a whole different perspective . No drama . ~PClinuxOS~ I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ...

For about two years, I wasn't just tired of playing, I was positively DISGUSTED. I detuned my guitars on purpose and took the cables off my synth to prevent myself from 'accidentily' playing. Then I drifted into dj-ing and producing, discovered lots of old funk and jazz and now I'm practicing guitar more intensely than ever and loving it. looking back, I'd say it was a case of having painted myself into the wrong musical corner. I had been playing song-based pop/rock for years with people who weren't flexible enough in their tastes and abilities to try anything else or improvise. I had to give it all up and start over, but now I'm playing what I really love and learning every day. Pop music can be terribly limiting (when you're not Prince )

It will be OK, V-man. Sometimes you just have to be on "input" mode. Relax and do what comes natural. Soon you'll find inspiration somewhere. OR, you can do something else creative... other than music... Do you have any other creative interests?

Er, no. I played today some brazilian mpb and pop songs and I had fun doing it , i think its the thing to do . I am not inspired to compose and i am sick and tired of studying tecnique, i will try just to learn some simple tunes, in the worst case it will be good cause i am tired of hearing at partys and some other situations: "But you should play more upbeat music! ANd portuguese please so we can sing". Now i will know lots of crappy pop songs just to entertain the idiots.

I totally relate to this. I grew up training to be a classical violinist and practiced and performed constantly. Then at one point, I just gave up music completely, even listening to music. I didn't have a stereo and didn't pick up the violin for a whopping 15 years!!! Looking back, I too had "painted myself into the wrong musical corner" and it all just got too narrow and frustrating. I know it's late, but in the last year I've rebloomed musically having found an alternative orchestra to play in and just going with it where I will. I also agree with Vina about finding other creative interests. I filled those 15 years with becoming a filmmaker, which used my musical sense but expanded on it exponentially. When I get tired of music, I simply move to another medium and draw, write or photograph. I just let it flow and the desire to play music then quickly comes back. The point is to keep flowing in any direction, and not limit yourself.

I hate to hear this. Lets break this down? Is it really music your tired of?
Or is it the type of music your plaing? The people your playing for? Industry opinions or just other musicians opinions of what your doing musically? Try to separate from all of this crap. Music in its purest form is spiritual. Something very personal. Take some time away and just clear your mind. Then think of what it is, that you really want to play/write whatever. Then do what you love! What is it that moves you musically? If nothing is moving you, then you may just be burntout of your influences. Check out some stuff you never listen to before. There is always someone great out here you have never heard. There are many external things that can drain your passion of music. Remember most importantly its about your soul. Dont give that away, and definatly dont give it up! For anybody.

I started loathing what I loved most. When I graduated, it all came back -- the love and inspiration for what I do. So clearing one's head of all the crap is the key -- and really doing it for yourself and nobody else. good advice
