more demos - need ur input

Okay, this one is sortof a Jesse Johnson vehicle - you remember those - where the singing and the lyrics were for crap, but the chorus and the guitar solo was really all that mattered? Right. That's this one.

DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD
www.blindslim.com/music/01.mp3

The lyrics are horrible, and I sang them last night when the kids were asleep, and excuses and excuses... just not happy with them. But the CHORUS! OH HUMPTY DUMPTY.

and of course the solo is the cat's pajamas. I cut the song short because the drums go south after that point.

- - -

This second one is also an apologetic mess. It's going to be a duo thing between me and Andrew Black - not a DUET but a duo thing - swapping lines - but my voice was shot by the time I did this one, and the lyrics are sloppy in places, and excuses and excuses.

NEVER TOO LOUD
www.blindslim.com/music/02.mp3

The best part about BOTH of these is that I just rolled tape and played the drums first, not having the lyrics, melody or song structure in my head at all... I just played the drums thinking, "okay, the chorus is going to go here" and then changed up the playing for other parts. So these tunes pretty much evolved from the ground up, they have a really nice organic feel to them, as opposed to my usual, intro-verse-chorus-repeat kind of thing.

Thanks for enduring. These will be totally reworked, but I wanted your feedback - particularly on the second one - should I just forget it? It started out as a great concept - "hey - me and Andrew singing about cranking the shit even louder! heck yeah!!"

01 has a blazing solo worship but all of my money is 02, it's just stronger in arrangement and everything else.

I have shit speakers at work here so I'm not getting into details just overall vibe of the two tunes

Oh yeah, if this stuff is as bad as you think with a shot voice and all, I must really suck because your voice sounds great to me (and I got no kids sleeping upstairs)

oh snap, a friend totally busted me on the jesse johnson song - he said "it sounds way too "Ready for the World"!

DANG! And he didn't know I was going for the JJ sound. Guess I overshot on that one.

And by crap vocals - I just mean - I'm shooting for a finished sound here - and these two tunes hardly have that going for them.

DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD
I hear those synths, but want to hear more. More like dual it up with the song structures in areas. And turn it up. Tward the end I almost want to hear some longer chords on the synth and then pan them for effect. Just in that area. WAY IMPRESSED with your geetar solo.

End it with the spoken words "Did you feel that?"

NEVER TOO LOUD
Not sure, maybe the vocals are too loud, I think. This one could work too. I disagree with Slave though and I'm diggin more on the first song. But that's me.

That's funny - an old drummer friend of mine likes the Never Too Loud tune more - he's a rocker dude tho. But yeah, the vox are too loud and sloppied up all over the place. This is good. Keep the feedbags coming, I'm getting good ideas from your inputz.

On NEVER TOO LOUD, I can hear a lead line wanting to come out on guitar, doubled on bass, and perhaps complimenting the phrase (sylabols) "Never too Loud". Then again with the softer sung phrase and the guitar (even softer) repeats the phrase in the background.

I can't write what I hear in my head. I'd have to call you up and sing it to you.

I can hear "DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD" evolving into something REALLY FUNKY. Perhaps speak some of the lines with a more authoritive, deeper voice, only in a few places, I dunno. Don't touch the chorus.

I almost want to hear a synthetic snare ala mr nelson on the 4 during the chorus and perhaps bring it back tward the end.

"Does that make you feel good ... (SMACK!)"
"Does that make you feel good ... (SMACK!)"
"Does that make you feel good ... (SMACK!)"
"Does that make you feel good ... (SMACK!)"

Oh, and don't forget to add all those cool grunts. whoo's and little subtle spoken parts that are far back in the mix that puts the fun in funk!

I agree with Yamomma - more synth in the first one, hold out chords longer at various points in the song. This song could be killer, especially if you start it off by saying in an English accent "what's good for the goose is always good for the gander..." The second song definitely would be great one to do live. Ok, well now I gotta come up with some more shit to compete with these! BTW, you never commented on whether you liked how we did the 'GC Funk Anthem' live. I figured you may have a little constructive criticism there - it's on the www.grooveclinic.net website. Oh yeah, and check out the fake bio - "other interesting facts."

I like the first one the best. The lyrics didn't matter. Like Kelly said, turn up the synths and pump it.

Hey thanks for the input on these, ya'll. I'll be re-tracking them this week. Got some new lyrics for "feel good" which will push the song in an entirely different direction, and I've got some better delivery plans for the rawker.

Thanks!
