A gibson Les Paul is heavier than a Tele - maybe you're so consumed with the funk that you're just tightening up your muscles unintentionally. The only way to fix it is to continually immerse yourself in the funk, thereby teaching your body to relax through the funk, over the funk, under the funk. Or, get a different strap. Maybe is is the scale of the neck???. Are you playing the guitar real low when standing? Maybe a trip to the chiro? Usually the body is saying something ain;t right when it starts hurting. Hopefully it is minor.. Turn that damn gitarr down!! http://www.soundclick.com/kevinschafer

It's really weird. With my Gibson LP and my cheap Hamer ES335-ripoff, no problem whatsoever. But as soon as I play that tele.
It might be that the very lightweight body has something to do with it. Or the scale. Or could it be the the string height? The strings on it are pretty far off the neck, with the g and d highest and the e's lowest.

You probably need to get a setup on the Tele. If you can hold a heavy old Gibson and not get sore , I think the setup on the Fender must be causing your grip to be abnormal, thus the Ergonomics of your playing are off, resulting with the sore shoulder . Just my opinion. Gibson LP is a heavy mutha of a thing ! ~PClinuxOS~ I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ...
