Acoustic Guitar Question I learned 5 cords. What should I do next? When do I start learning songs and how do I go about that? I just want to teach myself but wondering if lessons are a good idea. Any advice would be appreciated. Believe it or not, after watching Prince perform this year with his acoustic guitar, I bought one but am just realizing how difficult it is. Holy Jesus! Thanks.

I Play Electric fairly well and recently bought an acoustic, its bery difficult, but once you know how to operate a guitar it takes practice and you'll get it AS a newbie, i think its best if you get a teacher, or if you really want to teach yourself get a book Or i hear the Emedia - Guitar method software is good my friend taught himself how to play using that Electrics are fairly easy, because it resonate smore sound than an acoustic so you could sound pretty good just bydoing practically nothing

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. The book I got only includes the first 5 cords but leaves no suggestion of what to do after that. I appreciate it.

Guitar One Magazine has a lot of helpful columns/lessons. Out of all the monthly guitar mags, it's the most intense, imo. It can help you bridge that gap, get from point a to point b. Of course, there's always the 'net. There are a lot of sites that offer free lessons.
Good luck! My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

Go to the library. They've got tons of music books with songs and chords.
Also, get a metronome and don't practice without it.

5 chords?! Man, there are HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of songs you can play with those chords already!!!
Like it says above, get yourself to a library, get a book with some simple songs and off you go!

ive only been playing two years and cant belive the stuff i can do, u will constantly hit walls but then one day it will happen then u will move on to the next wall just keep bashing um down. find a good teacher! mine doesnt use metronomes. start with the blues man everything comes from there, play with feel and your ears if u want to play like the man learn to do barr chords by using your thumb for the low E over the top of the neck. i find it less stresfull and great for fills
find yourself in your guitar be cool ps the cross is a great easy song to start with. only 2 chords.

Yes, I fully agree! Too many guitarists out there that can play every possible chord but with crap timing... "Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the universe" (Fishbone)

Give yourself goals to attain.
Select 10 simple sounding songs and figure them out either by ear or finding the music. Learn what the notes sound like, work on imagining music in your head. Create some stuff. Have fun Dirt &Earthyvibes http://www.dirt.bz
