Some Old Skewl guitar rock Just finished this one, it is called Sparkle Motion. I am useing a 62 RI Strat and a 72 Carlsbro TR60, which is a Marshallesque british amp. Has a beefy riff, Jimi's Freedom was definately an inspiration on this one. As always Rikki Davenport is spankin the drums, he is a blast to play with. Enjoy!! Oh yeah, the start point takes a few seconds, just haven't fixed it yet.

His stuff with Tony Williams is far and away my favorite. You will appreciate this more than most, but your father comment brought a smile to me. I told a friend about a year ago that I didn't want to sound like Stave Vai, but I wanted to sound like Steve Vai's dad on this project. It seems that you are hearing what I was shooting for...lol Turn that damn gitarr down!! http://www.soundclick.com/kevinschafer

Holy crap this is awesome. Once again, another post slinks past my radar.
How did you record this? What mics? How many mics on the drums? This is badass. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Thanks a bunch guys, I really appre4ciate it.
Otan, The drums were mic'd Snare , Kick, two overheads and two room mics about 10 feet back. The room mics is really where the fullness comes in. I am a Zepp freak and want that open natural feel on the kit. We track in a huge room so drums are just a dream in there. If I recall I think it was a 57 on the guitar up close and a mic 6 feet back or so for ambiance. I use FX fronting my amp, a line 6 modulator box. I go for the old Phase 90 sound, a bit of delay through a Boss ME-50 and an old Crybaby from the early 90s. I am recording on a friends 24 track Mackie set up. Jason Keillor is his name and he has a great set of ears. He is the engineer on this stuff. We have used a bunch of different mic combos on this project and I can't remember what was used when. Mostly we try to let the room do the work for us. Makes it very easy to get good tones. Turn that damn gitarr down!! http://www.soundclick.com/kevinschafer
