I'm a beginner guitar player so I don't really have a frame of reference for skill, etc....

So, is Prince at his peak as far as guitar playing? Like does he ever go "Man, I need to learn how to do THAT!?!?!"....of course he's always delving into new music, etc, but can he play the same song BETTER now than say 10 years ago? Does he continue to get better? (sorry if this is a silly question)....

Yes, Prince is better now than ever, he runned away a little from pentatonics, now he plays some modes, and he is a lot faster now in his left hand. He is using the whammy too and it seems he is being influenced by Steve Vai and Joe Satriani lately.

In my opinion I think that Prince is a great guitarist! However, I don't think that his playing overall has really improved or changed in the last 10 years.
I'm glad that he seems to be playing a lot more. Again, he's great, I'm just not hearing anything new or innovative. Yeah, he's waffling his whammy, I'm just not hearing what it's added to his playing or his music. Besides,He's got great finger vibrato. There aren't many if any guitarist doing anything new sonically or creatively with a vibrato bar nowadays anyway.


I think that Prince is comfortable with his playing skills as they apply to his own music. He's never struck me as being the gunslinger type.
