Get to know each other better! I'd like to get to know you all better...
Hi, my real name's John Williamson but my stage name is John P. So, a little bit about myself: I changed my name to John P because John Williamson is a famous country singer in this country, Australia. "P" is my middle initial, which stands for Phillip and also P-Funk Lover. And when I say P-Funk, I mean all of George Clinton's creations and also people like Prince. Anyhoo, I have a girlfriend who lives in Oregon and I just returned from a trip there about a month ago. I just finished recording an EP of music over there and its called "Hologram". I've beeb flaunting this music quite a bit and have a possible deal happening with Warner Bros. if all things go smoothly. Here is the cover from that: Anyway guys, listen to my music at the second link in my sig below and find out more about me at the first link! Post your own story about yourself/your music here!

Hey John P! I like this post. I was thinking about doing one like this too!
My name is Isaiah Tolbert My new musician name is Izak Teaz..... it just sounds so unique and cool. I have a boyfriend named Ramsey, and we have went all over the country this summer. And he took me 2 my first Prince and Diana Ross concert. I have been recording alot of tracks for my 'planned for' 2005 album Izak Teaz, but only have about 7 or 8 standard material out of the like 60 beats I have made this year. I have been doing Experimental, Breakbeat, Hip Hop & R&B for about 3 years now. I had a number 1 soundclick hit with "Take Yo Ass 2 The Floor" in June thanks to the prince.orgers. I have made some fabulous collabos with Psykosoul (Chickengrease) Flashpointe, and Electric Purple. I don't know if I'm ready for giving my music 2 companies since I dont use any real studio equipment. [Edited 12/1/04 15:13pm] Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Aquarius, and my name is Laarry, (old school "Float On" humor there...)
Beau Hall Creative Services Architect for Weather.com - a web site that sees over 15 million unique hits per day from people worried about something that they can't possibly change anyhow. I build those annoying ads that take over the page. And people love me for it. I also do a lot of behind-the-scenes work, like making sure that prince.org stays online... I have three boys and a kickass wife. I do visual art and music. It's great to work daily doing what I love. Like they always said - do what you love and you will be rich not just in money but in happiness. Well, I don't know WHO said that, but they were right. Currently, I just finished a local blues web site; www.bluesatlanta.com - inspired by the community in sites like this one. My chosen name is VinaBlue for a few reasons. Years ago I was searching mythology books for a goddess of music. I found Saraswati, the Hindu Goddess of the arts, which included music, poetry and language. I instantly felt a connection to her and started doing more research. One of the things she holds in her hands is an Indian Lute, called a Vina.
When I was performing in coffeehouses with my friend Butterfly, I was very nervous. I read that Saraswati bestowed a pleasing and melodious voice to those that worshiped her, so I took the name Vina as a way to offer myself as her instrument and "let go and let Goddess". This way I left it all up to her and I didn't need to be nervous about sounding good. It always worked. The Blue in my name is my favorite color, but it also is the color of the Throat Chakra, which is your energy center for self-expression, including creativity and speaking/singing your truth. It's also the 5th chakra and 5 is a very important number to me. In numerology, if you add my birthdate together you get a 5, and in astrology the 5th sector of your chart is the house of creativity. Pretty neato, huh? So after reading The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron and I had a breakthrough and started working on my own music. I had written lots of lyrics and instrumental pieces from the age of 14 but had trouble putting them together into songs until then. In 2 months I wrote and recorded Belong, Naked, Move and Leaving Blue. Then I met my boyfriend and I wrote Flutter, Surrender, Entropy, Watching You Go, Nothing Matters and lots more. Those 9 main songs were going to form my first album, but I still havn't completed it due to lack of technical know-how and the fact that it's hard to write when you are happy and in love. Most of the songs are about the beginning of our turbulent relationship and when things were going good, I couldn't sing about the negative stuff. When things were going bad I just wrote more poetry. Anywho, we broke up this year and now I'm free to be me again. I'm not sure what to do with these unfinished songs. I'll probably just make mp3s of them for people to download.

Actually I haven't posted for some time, but I guess this is a good time to start hanging out here again.
My name is Erik Duijs, but on stage it's just 'E' (for the lack of anything more creative but what's in a name... ) I used to make a living from being a studio engineer, a teacher for studio engineering and a session musician. Now I'm an IT consultant/software developer. I decided to make music something I just love to do again, instead of consuming my love for it so to speak. I play bass guitar, keyboards, drums and a bit of guitar (mainly just rhythm guitar). I play in 3 bands, 1 of which I lead and write the music for (Move GA*GA). I love many kinds of music, but I'm mostly into George Clinton, Prince, Zap Mama, Erykah Badu, Fishbone, Bootsy, James Brown but I also like other kinds of artists like David Bowie, Silje Nergaard and more... Here's a picture of me with my lovely girlfriend: "Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the universe" (Fishbone)

I know I haven't posted anything, because I'm not usually creating, but helping others creat. I'm a sound engineer. Started in post production, then moved to dubbing childrens TV programs, and for the past few years I've been recording music. The studio I work in (until we sold it about a few weeks ago) had all kinds of music styles coming in. from religious Jewish music to rock, pop, even metal, Jazz, blues, and middle eastern music. I've been a second sound engineer until about a year ago when the main soundman left for Canada, then I took over and became the head sound engineer. Now my boss has moved to NY, and is planning on opening a music center in the area (NY, NJ, not sure yet) and I'm about to join him there. I've learn a little bit of keyboards when I was 8, and had a few lessons here and there for a few years. Nothing professional. I did join a band when I was about 17, but they were all busy with studies that we didn't really do much except practice and write music in the garage of one of the members house. I started learning guitar on my own, and a bit of drums. I recently bought a cheap bass guitar to learn it too. I do that so I can understand better the sound of those instruments and the way they're played. It helps a lot as a sound engineer to understand what the players are doing. Been working on Analog equipment (16 tracks reel to reel) and on digital (protools, cubase, logic)

Just incase you missed it last time...
With a ten-year history of classical and jazz training in piano, saxophone, and guitar, DeRon has a unique appreciation for the artistry of music. However, this background merely laid the foundation for what would DeRon become. With early professional production in the mid nineties, he was drafted into the hip-hop scene. His production received underground recognition across the states; nevertheless this was not the true road DeRon wanted take. While the minor success and appreciation was gratifying, DeRon felt the limits of compromising his artistry for a commercial sound. In an attempt to show how truly universal music could be, DeRon offered the independent scene his first true solo effort in 2001 under the alias of Azariah. The album was entitled “The Healing”. It was an exotic mixture of jazz, rock, and world music. This recording was the maverick for the eclectic, electric, experimental sound that DeRon now likes to call “ocean music”. After recording various projects under a mixture of monikers such as Azariah, Empathy In Love, Modern Kitten Theory, DJ Iceberg, Cure for Cancer, and a host of others, DeRon is finally ready to take off his mask and reveal his true talents with his latest project, "The Ministry of You". ..... PALISADE HILLS UNVEILS “GROUNDBREAKING” NEW RELEASE Founder of online cyber-label releases highly praised music project. (November 2, 2004)- Ever since 1998, entrepreneur and independent musical visionary, DeRon, has single-handedly owned and operated the Palisade Hills record label. After recording various projects under a mixture of monikers such as Azariah, Empathy In Love, Modern Kitten Theory, DJ Iceberg, Cure for Cancer, and a host of others, DeRon is finally ready to take off his mask and reveal his true talents with his latest project, “The Ministry of You”. Over the years, Palisade Hills has grown into one of the most vital online musical alliances around. Recorded in only a matter of months, "The Ministry of You" is a project that will leave his congregation in astonishment. "From the first note to the last, "The Ministry of You" is nothing short of groundbreaking" raves writer Tracy Carter. The comparisons here are evident and felt throughout the album. Ranging from that of the leaders of the early electronic persuasion, Kraftwerk, on the hit single “When I Want Romance”, to the influence of the modern-day artistry of Massive Attack, or possibly early Björk, on tracks like “Little Blue Riddles” and “I Want To Move To London”. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Independent singer/songwriter Norine Braun proclaims that there are “wonderful instrumental grooves to relax with this terrific down tempo collection”. Overall, DeRon offers an assortment of elements from the modern electronic scene, hip-hop, traditional Oriental music, and even New Age. The album is now on sale at CDBaby.com, TowerRecords.com, and Viztas.com. More news and information on DeRon or other Palisade Hills artists can be found at PalisadeHills.com. ###

There's another sound engineer in the studio that has no musical experience, and he kept telling me that in the rehearsal room, there's one band that the leader keeps bothering him about the sound of the acoustic guitar. After a while this sound engineer decided to buy a classic guitar, and one day he comes to me and says "Wow, I tried amplifying the guitar in the rehearsal room, and I finally understand what that band leader was talking about, it's really different when you play the instrument yourself, and can feel that something's wrong". Also, a lot of sound engineers are either musicians that didn't make it in the music business and decided to go offstage to the studio and do their best there, or people who are really into engineering and cool toys that cost a lot of money I'm both. didn't really have the energy to practice my playing skills, and I really love toys, gadgets, and I think I'm better off helping others with their music, and not be in the spot light.

Sweet topic!
Well, I'm a Scorpio and my name is Saturn. My momma wasn't cool enough to name me Saturn so I had to do it myself when I was 12 and started writing songs. By the time I was 24, I had written over 400 songs. I'd always dreamed of being in the music business, had even recorded a few demos in my teens, but I didn't know how to go about it and really didn't think I had the skills to do it. Well, something happened when I was 24 ... I don't know what it was ... I just had this revelation that I could really do this if I tried! I couldn't spend the rest of my life wondering what would have happened had I only tried to succeed in music. So, I decided to just go balls to the wall and just go for it. I started a label, got together some songs for a cd, I didn't know any musicians at the time, I had just moved to Baltimore, so I did all the instrumentation myself and produced it all independently. I self released it when I was 25 and then my real education began! It's been three years now and I can honestly say I have learned a hell of a lot, wasted A LOT of money and now I have a clear path that I'm trying to follow. I strive to be an independent music artist ... I know everything is stacked against me, but I believe I can be successful at it if I perservere. I just self released my second CD, "DEVIANT", I've got a band together for my CD release party, and I am CONSTANTLY learning. I feel like a child in this music biz but I have to admit, even though it's hard as hell to stay motivated and keep believing in yourself, I've had some of the best experiences by pursuing this path and I can't wait to see what the future brings. I may never be a mutli-platinum selling artist, but I know I have to have music in my life. I just have no choice but to create. I can't imagine my life without it. So, that's me, the artist, in a nutshell. You can check out my website and see if you dig some of my tunes, and if you like, you can support and get a copy of the CD! www.iamsaturn.com[img]

Hello everyone,
I'm QuietSoul. I used to produce under the name "kymystry" but since 1996, a lot of people have been using the hell out of that name so I had to change it up. My musical education started at an early age with my grandmother putting a transistor radio inside my bassinet. It further continued because I was always surrounded by music thanks to family members. Yes, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Delfonics, Stylistics, Ohio Players, anything from Motown because I'm from Detroit, Sly & The Family Stone, Funkadelic, Parliament, Rush, Pink Floyd, Bird, Miles, Trane, Diz, Monk, Horace Silver, Isaac Hayes, B.B. King, Barry White, James Brown, Hendrix, and this is only scratching the surface, are some of the artists that I heard as a child. As far as formal musical education I took clarinet in elementary school and advanced band in middle school. I also had one semester of piano in high school. Couldn't stand my teacher though so I got very little out of it. I started playing guitar thanks to my best friend of almost 20 years. He started me out playing stuff from Ratt, Dokken, Poison...basically most of the hair bands. I learned to play by ear simply by listening to what I heard and applying it. I eventually did the same with the bass and piano and it's been just short of an obsession ever since. My proudest moment in music so far has been receiving a nomination for a Detroit Music Award for a song I produced, which was also selected for an independant comedy called "For The Love Of Money". It was so cool seeing my name in the credits as "Kymystry". Definitely gave me the inspiration to keep going. Presently I'm interested in meeting fellow musicians here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area either to jam, write or record with. It's always cool to bounce ideas around, right? Love&Light, QuietSoul "No sex can be safer, it's a pill wrapped in a little piece of paper."

Hi, I'm new here! My name is John Myers and my stage name is...er, John Myers.
I'm a singer/musician based in London and have played with acts such as Kylie Minogue, Mike Oldfield and Shane MacGowan (Pogues), as well as having co-written a UK Top 30 hit which was pretty crap to tell the truth. Nothing like honesty... Anyway, I still do a lot of recording sessions but also do my own stuff, writing and recording everything by myself. Mmm, I wonder where I got that idea from? This is a great topic. My real name is Bill Wensel. 'wdrew' comes from my first initial and middle name. Actually, my 1st initial if you call me William. I'm a song writer that wishes he was a performer. I've unfortunatly let too many things keep me from spending as much time on my music as I would like to. But that's going to change and I've already started getting my studio dusted off and put back together.
I've managed to stay single all of these years as I somehow have one of those personalities where everyone that knows me loves me, but single ladies think I have the plague. I run a restaurant in the Minneapolis area. And I spent 2004: (Feb) Watching the business that I owned and operated collapse; (March) Having my dog die in my arms after I got home from work one night, and then realizing that he waited for me to get home before passing; (April) Having to close my business; (May) Having my house go up for foreclosure; (June) Finally getting a job again; (July) Saving my house; (August) Getting promoted at my job. (September) Getting back on my feet again; (October) Took a vacation to Disney World. (November) Helped a friend through a rough time; (December) Spent the holidays with the best family in the world. I've never had such a rough year, but it ended well, and I'm now looking forward to 2005 being my lucky year... What's the use of being young if you ain't gonna get old
