NEW and REMIXED songs on Soundclick!

I've added a new song and some remixed ones on Soundclick. The new song is still in demo stage and called "Moistulation." I came up with it the other day and wrote some words last night. This is just the basic idea of the song. I UPDATED/REMIXED the following songs: So Much Better (added different keys and guitar and took out some vox), The Best Tonight (just a remix - I hated how I mixed the original version) and Sexy Rain (keys and guitar a bit louder in the mix). Check 'em out and let me know what you think.

I didn't realize that there would be such an overwhelming response. At least somebody listen to the new one - "moistulation." Please?

Sorry, I meant to do this a few days ago. I really like this. The only thing I would change personally is the beat (it's too early 90s/New Jack Swingish for me).

It will change when re-recorded with real drums. Thanks!

Moistulation is pretty cool...but your vocals don't sound black enough for the music.

Maybe add a camille effect to the vox.

I would if I could! I'm going to re-record vox eventually. Right now I can barely talk. My voice went out in the second set last night - not cool!

u don't have 2 b black 2 b funky. Look at the Average White Band, KC and the Sunshine Band,Paul Peterson(St.Paul),...etc.and not to forget Otan (Beau Hall).

Ahhh, yes, THE infamous Otan AKA Beau Hall AKA "Copperhead" AKA "Whatchagonnado!" He's one of my personal heroes (along with David Blaine and Mike Tyson). Hahaha. I used to alter my vox all the time when I recorded on cassette tape, though. It was cool. Now back to my hot tea...

I like the groove on moisture(something) hehe -- as far as the black 2 voxie thingy -- that's bulshit - It's about soul, which brings me to a point I'd like to make. First let me say I like your stuff, I think theres a fine line between soul and performance. If you worry too much about the performance.. or lean too far on either side you're not going to do justice to either one. In my opinion I think you need to worry less about performance and push more into soul, You have it, I hear it... There's lots of people that can sing, but nobody cares if you don't put your "being" into it... I think taming the emotion is better than taming the performance. That's my take anyway.

Thanks for your comments. I find that it's easier to put more into it when you've become sure of everything that's happening in the song. Those were sorta just first take vox.

Moistulation is cool. With your remix of the main vocal track this should Funk!
All the rest sounds great, i.e. your background vox, bass, keys, guitar, drums.
Somehow don't lose the 'white' voice, as it gives the twist. If you sounded 'Black', I feel the song would be Disco; which i couldn't handle. wink peace

Moistulation:
Sounds like you're too close to the vocal mic - the bottom end is overpowering - did you mess with the EQ on the vocals? They're all super boomy. (well, perspectively speaking - the song kicks ass, and that's probably the biggest thing that stands out - the music almost takes a back seat to the vocals - I'm imagining that you might have had a wrestling match trying to mix that down because the vox occupy so much of the aural spectrum. roll back the bottom end and then they'll sit a little happier in the song. (JUST my opinion, as always)

Best Tonight #2
Very great mix. The acoustics sound nice and natural, the voice is mixed nicely into the song, it seems to fade back a bit in some spots, but not too much. The right guitar also sits nice in the song, not overpowering, and not buried. Extra credit for the backing vocals that are ever-so-slightly placed into the mix, like lace on a thong - you almost don't notice it.

Sexxy Rain
First off - pick different drums, unless you're trying to sound too much like Fine Young Cannibals. Try the second funk kit (my favorite of them all) OR the enhanced power kit - enpwr? Don't remember. OR, go all the way and put on the hip-hop drums for a total 80's Laidback tone.

The vocals are a lot better now... dunno if you re-did them or just remixed them... I think you re-did them.

Okay, lastly, and this is me being a picky whiny b!tch - the rhythm guitar following the same pattern as the bass guitar, and organ and lead key line - it's too much pushing into a single rhythm... everything is going da-dah-da... I'd say put your guitar rhythm somewhere else entirely to put a little more syncopation into the song - to "de-CRACKER" it a bit. That's just me tho. Okay - also - on the RAIN part of the song, drop the thumping bass and go into a bootsy/flashlight bass line to provide a change on the canvas underneath the lyrical change, to help say "this is something different". Nice outro. VERY nice.

So Much Better #2
I like the keys in there - but that triplet ride cymbal - it's just gonna ride my drawers. I'll live with it. I would suggest bringing the vocals closer to the center - don't pan them SOO far to each side. Dig the harmonies.

Sex Ballad
Love this and I've only heard 30 seconds. You gotta look into all the other drumkits that are offered. That first drumkit is just too 1989 for me. But it's my opine. Dude this is a great song.

Final Thoughts:
GO BUY BOTH DAG CDs. Your voice reminds me of that singer a lot - from the falsettos to the straight singing - they're THE funky and giving them a listen would, I think, maybe give you some great ideas. (and if you don't have the cds or can't find them, org note me, I'm sure something can be done).

Great job on these dude. I need to get busy you prolific dog.

I'm thinking it's a bit of me and a bit of the microphone I'm using. The AKG C100S seems to give some vox that quality. However, I was definitely too close to the mic. The mix sounds different in the headphones AND on the computer AND then even more different in the car. I didn't mess with the EQ on the vox, but maybe I should start doing that, huh?

I figured you'd like how I buried the background vox...

I just remixed the vox. I just started out with music and then just added the vox in later. I kept it simple just so I could get the vox in and change other stuff later. I just never bothered because I just wanted something that my band guys could work with. I never actually intended on keeping that rhythm guitar track in there like it was I just never redid it. There's actually a few mistakes at the beginning (where I buried it a little lower) that I just left there.

Some of the vox are on the same tracks as the panned lead guitars during the "out there" bridge section. I was too lazy to pan them during mixdown. I did want a sort of call and answer type of vocal during the verses (almost like a duet) and actually eliminated one set of vox. Again I just remixed or eliminated some of the vox, but didn't redo them.

Ok, I think you've noticed that I don't scrounge around too long for drums or drumkits, just a decent rhythm that I can use. When I had the Zoom drum machine I actually programmed different beats and whole songs, but now I don't want to be bothered because I keep thinking I'll forget the guitar or keyboard parts I just came up with. And, yes, I know I could actually go back and do the whole thing over again, but...it just sounds like a lot of work...lol. I can't believe you actually LIKE this! It's soooo sloppy it's almost embarrassing, but AGAIN it was just an idea that hasn't seen fruition.

Notice how compressed that dude's voice is - I still haven't figured out how to really use compression like that in a recording - I just pick a preset and go with it.

As far as just grabbing a loop nand going forward, I agree with you when you're just laying the foundation for the song, but you should really go back and finish these things - you've got a finished album here if you go back and re-do the drums and polish a thing or two.

Yeah, but I'm trying to include my bandmates so it can be OUR CD to sell at our shows (with all songwriting royalties to me, of course). I'd much rather have real drums or at least a good programmer come up with something DOPE! HA! The guitar/keyboard guy and his buddy have recorded CDs at his house before and seem to know what they're doing. If not there's a local studio that's pretty reasonable. We're still working on getting the live clips up on the website.

Moistulation: cool song, nice and funky groove, like it!

Best Tonight #2: I'm not into country at all but the recording itself sounds good.

Sexxy Rain: this sounds like a mix between The Fine Young Cannibals, Prince, INXS and George Michael of course. I like it coz it's funky...

Sex Ballad: the best of the bunch IMO, I agree with otan to get rid of the triplet ride, but a very cool slow jam nevertheless!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Thanks, funkaholic. I'd love to be able to pull off the stuff that you do! And, like I said before, most of these songs are just works in progress.
