Every guitarist has them, what tricks do you have in your guitar playing.

In other words what really characterises your guitar playing. For me I love adding bends in my solos. Everyone who hears my playing always comments on my bends.

What are yours, it could be pull offs for your solos, a particular scale etc.

I am always curious to see what other guitarist have in their arsenal.

and people where blown away

There aren't any tricks. You just listen to what your playin' and don't think.

I really don't use too many effects.

for my latest stuff, like "On Saturday"
i use my Jem guitar, and my Roland amp (with synth), and i use the modeling from the amp for my guitar. the modeling had some reverb, and sometimes delay, also distortion.

U can hear a high pitch instrument which sounds like keys, but its my guitar synth and its a Pretty LP effects for guitar.

I'm not really into the effect boxes and processors, though i like my synth, and pretty soon i'll get the synth processor GR-33.

a lot of the sounds come from my Keytar which is plugged into a E-MU sound module.

At gigs I use a LOT of Grant Green-style slides into double stops and quite a few Wes Montgomery-style octaves and a few block chords. So I suppose that makes me different from players who use primarily single strings in solos. I also like to do fast runs that end on "outside" notes, (from the altered scale for instance), a jazzy trick I picked up from Princes Blues in C (Livesexy).

The thing I do that nobody else even tries to do is I'll throw the guitar up in the air, and when it lands, I poop on it and then spray it with cheez-whiz. and THEN I set it on fire.

Sure, Hendrix set his guitar on fire, but he didn't poop-cheez it first.

Another thing I do at live gigs is to move around. Jump up and down, look at the crowd, point, boogie. I HATE killer bands that are nothing but a bunch of shoe gazers.

If you're playing awesomely, if you're getting off on your playing, you need to let that out. It's a purging thing. Otherwise it just looks like you're playing what you rehearsed last night.

but I mean my playing is very bluesy. Dunno why, I never listen to blues!

I play in a classic rock covers band (www.bandykoot.com) and bluesy-rock solos seem to fit in well.

I always knock my guitar way out of tune by the end of each gig cos I bend the strings so much.
That and a nice vibrato on held notes, just to keep 'em sweet instead of sounding flat and lifeless.

Nothing original or new in my playing, but it works for me and I'm happy so who cares?

Ocassionally i accidentally, (on purpose), drop my guitar while playing. The sounds generated are unbelievable. Another 'trick' i've been known to do is kick the wrong pedal and fill the room with an ear splitting feedback that really sobers up the crowd and sends them into a stupor; or back to the bar. These are old 'tricks' i haven't used in a while, and took a while to remember that i'd actually been so professional. Another just gleaned it's way into consciousness . Just sitting at the bar having my one pre-gig drink and heard the band was playing. Made a casual move up on stage just in time for my solo. Was a real tricky move i tell ya.
