new demo: Run Your Hands NEW AND IMPROVED LAME O VOCALS WITH backstage soliloquy.
It's something different. sort of. It started out as an attempt at jazz. heh. so then, it turned into an attempt at a hot nasty stanky pervo song, and then, from there, it turned into a quirky new wave song, (with the addition of the oddball keyboard) So, now, it sounds like a cracker mumbling over an outtake from the Love Below, which, I spose ain't necessarily a BAD thing. I just need to go back and totally redo the vocals. And the drums, maybe. Maybe not. The vocals were just a scratch vocal and I haven't had the chance to do them up right. EDIT: OH HEY - the hollowbody tone - it's the VARIAX! [Edited 11/9/04 9:48am] [Edited 11/9/04 20:11pm] [Edited 11/9/04 20:32pm] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Dude, what can't you make work?
That beat was something I would expect from Iziah (in fact I hear his voice singing it too) almost a dance mix and I wanted to not like it because it's not what I expect to hear from you. Then by the end, I needed to listen again because you made it work so well. Hey, if it sucked, I would tell you (org note) because there's no shy factor here but it doesn't. Thanks for sharing work in progress

that's another thing I was trying to work with -- something outside of my usual 105-120 bpm range. Everything I do settles down around that speed. Gotta throw some change-up in there for the whole disc to stay interesting, otherwise it get mighty boring. This would be what they call one o them "filler" tracks... kinda like the Time's "onedayI'mgonnabesomebody"... fun, boppy, but certainly not something you buy the CD for. Is it just coincidence that any time I actually put a new song on Soundclick you have one the next day? Do you have to outdo me every time. You suck!

Well, yes. You busted me. Well. No.. not exactly... I hear everybody else's stuff and then think, well, I got this thing over here I'm working on, it's not DONE yet, but, well, crap, throw it up there cuz people might provide some useful input. But brace yourself, I'm going in tonight to try to record 5 songs total. Already written, just need to get the basic tracks ready for the studio... maybe I'll have them all finished by tomorrow. Sure would be great. [Edited 11/9/04 13:09pm] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

what key is this thing in? very creative but it gave my ear a fit. my ear was looking for a key to settle in on. O.K. I think I hear a D minor later in the song. unique sound for you.

I really dig this kinda stuff. In my opinion if your going to do something that has obviosly been done before, whats the point? This is very original. I think this is the purest funk I've heard from you. Cool stuff!

This is actualy atonal at points. Its created around the Key melody. Vamped chords and the rest is Otan just... Very free formed and spaced for scalular movement. Love the sound! This is my kinda stuff. Steely Dan'ish even!

This is my kinda stuff. Steely Dan'ish even! you guys just give me waaaaay too much credit. The oh-so complex chord stucture is D7 to D#min7. Maybe. Maybe not. I was moving the chord structure up one note, I think. You know me, Tal, I don't focus so much on the chords, as much as I focus on the pretty patterns my fingers make on the keyboard. The first chord is 4 fingers evenly spaced, the second chord is what I like to call, "grandma has a cramp up on the second black key". Don't thank me. I'm here to help. Wow, this is very different for you, Beau. This kinda reminds me of Mr.Bungle in certain parts. I really like this. Free form, flowing, going into outter space... I like that flute part, it reminds me of the intro to Around the World in a Day. Everything about this is really cool. I'm listening for the second time now and I'm thinking Bitches Brew. This is so original and fucken great. This is some deep and crazy shit. Damn. I don't even care what you are saying! The music is that good. This is so creative. Put the lyrics up, will ya? I want to sing along. Oh yeah, and props on the ending man. [Edited 11/9/04 20:06pm]

I just uploaded the new vocals with freeform narrative at the ending:
SO, the ending that you liked is now replaced with something else entirely. Again, don't thank me, I'm here to help. The lyrics? Basically, think of any Justin Timberlake "oh baby you're so fine I gotta have you" song combined with any Britney Spears "oh baby you're so fine on the dance floor I have no talent I lipsynch but please, stare at my boobies" song. FIXED I think [Edited 11/9/04 20:33pm] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I can sleep now. BY THE WAY - that last part - I recorded it tonight while the wife was out running some errand. SO, there I am, having my imaginary conversation with a couple of groupies, turn around and there's Fly wondering wtf I'm doing. yeeeaaaaahhh. I had some splaining to do. This ending is cool too, but I'm glad I have both versions. Nice 808 bass, is that fruity loops? Really cool loop. . [Edited 11/9/04 21:41pm]

Nice creative output. I hear a strong bluesy influence in all your songs. This one steps outside the box, it sounds like you left all worries behind and just said fuck it. Are you trippin as of late out or have always been like this? lol

cool! That's a good question/point. The times where I just say "fuck it" and throw something out there without trying to BE anything, the results are always interesting. Maybe not so much "GOOD", but interesting. I just always look at those songs as bastard children that I had little to do with - just spat it out and let it run loose. Of course, the ones I'm working on forever and ever - the more I work on them, seems like the less interesting they become. SIGH. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
