"When the Levee Breaks" is public domain? Hey holy crap. I just saw that "When the Levee Breaks" is actually a public domain tune, (I'm guessing, lyrics, not the Bonham beat, Page groove and Plant screams).
MAN I gotta do a cover of that for my album! PUBLIC DOMAIN! YOU CAN record/sell it without paying royalties! I'm up on it. I am. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Moderator | That's funny.
I was just listenting to that song. You just HAVE TO pull your Led out once in a while. Although there are several songs that I just refuse to listen too anymore, I really can't think of ONE bad Zepp song. Challenge. Put just about any Zepp tune on and try to follow Bonham's foot alone. Forget the rest of his limbs. (Trying that with "Wearing and Tearing" and "Poor Tom" right now.) All Rights Reserved. |

...and exactly where did you find out that "When The Levee Breaks" is a public domain document?
Is it only the Led Zeppelin version that is, supposedly, non-copyrighted, or the orginal by Kansas Joe?

I read it on mp3.com - Perfect Circle did a cover of it on their new album (save yourself the trouble - it sucks) and it's listed as Public Domain... I don't know nothing bout no Kansas Joe or Detriot Damfino. [Edited 11/10/04 19:15pm] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Really? Could you post the link to where it says it's public domain?
Just out of curiousity, did Led Zepp or someone who did the song allow it to be used publicly or something? I don't know why it would be public domain...

Moderator | Isn't it something like after 30 years, songs become public domain?
Forgot where I read that. All Rights Reserved. |

Forgot where I read that. It's 50 years, and I think that's only if nobody claims the song (as a relative of the owner, etc.) I'm trying to get to mp3.com but they're crawling, (pieces of crap, serves them right for crippling the online music community). As soon as the page comes up - it's one or two links from the home page. http://www.mp3.com/albums...mmary.html [Edited 11/11/04 8:59am] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
