What new songs are you learning now? I recently bought a few Jimi songbooks...Electric Ladyland, and the Woodstock set. But I've also been on an eMule trip for the last week...and got bollocked at work for leaving our intranet open to hackers over the weekend Still I now have all of the Hendrix stuff, plus like 30 or 40 other songbooks!
Now I'm mostly on a Hendrix tip, so I'm learning Gypsy Eyes, Wait Until Tomorrow, 1983... I know this is akin to the 'what are you listeing to now?' GF threads, but still, what new songs if any are you learning now? ..... BULLSEYE!

Funny you should mention.
I'm in the middle of doing a 80's hair metal version of Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son". It's for a competition on another site... I've been grouped with 3 retards at random, and they're all death metal heads. 80's Metal is the closest I was willing to do. I just can't do Death Metal. Sounds like fun...or some sort of community service project I remember listening to some of your very early tracks and thinking they were a lot rockier/grungier than your current babies so I'm sure you can pull it off. I've never learnt any metal myself, erm, other than Enter The Sandman....hmmm. ..... BULLSEYE!

I am learning some Pantera Songs, like new level and i´m broken. It´s very hard stuff to play, but i just pick some licks as teh solos are improvised for the most part with high speed it´s near impossible to emulate in the same way it was played, at least for me. BUt i rpefer to play the metal riffs than solos, the solos are too much legatto and tapping for my taste.

I'm working on a number of jazz classics as recorded by Grant Green: stuff like Cool Blues (charlie Parker), Oleo, Airegin, (sonny Rollins) My Favorite Things, (arranged by Coltrane), Tune Up (Miles Davis) (from a book by Wolf Marshall). It's not so hard to mimic what Green played, but to actually improvise over those changes... phew. I'm also in the process of learning to read music again, and this time I want to learn it really well. I'm seriously considering taking lessons again (after having given them myself for years) to get this bebop/hard bop thing down.

The horror.
"CARRY ON WAYWARD SON, as interpreted by Otan at 1:30am" - or - a little ditty I like to call "Sleep Deprivation, a cold and suckage": http://www.blindslim.com/...rrion1.mp3 Vocals and guitars are just scratch track for others to follow. And the drums suck. Oh, and that's all that's on the song, so, wow, I give it a 10. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I've been shying away from jazz, as there's just too many notes for me, and all the notes seem to be important...still I'm planning to dive in soon with Breezin' (George Benson...would that even be classed as jazz?) ..... BULLSEYE!

I'm part of a house band that does a Jazz/R&B jam session on Sunday nights.
After the 1st set it's an open jam and tunes that aren't known get played out of The Real Book. For the 1st set i've had to learn: I'm Walkin' - a Jimmy Smith style swing version of the Fats Domino tune by Kevin Mahogany Cantaloupe Island - Herbie Hancock Cold Duck Time - Les McCann/Eddie Harris Killer Joe - Quincy Jones Superman Lover - Johnny "Guitar" Watson Mercy, Mercy, Mercy - Cannonball Adderley Tabasco - Soulive Chain Of Fools - Aretha Franklin All Blues - Miles Davis Right Off - Miles Davis Fun groovin' stuff. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. (George Benson...would that even be classed as jazz?)
I recently discoverd his New Boss guitar album. That can definitely be classed as shit-hot jazz. It's a pity he sings so much these days

I mean, I've had my CDs compared to a steaming pile, so, you know, just following up... The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Is there anything more satisfying than a steaming pile? It's the ultimate compliment.
