Prince harmonies When prince records his harmonies are they all live? By this i mean, does he record each individual line on its own or is there a piece of equipment that would allow him to record just one line of harmony and then produce harmonic equivelants at the touch of a button. For instance, if he sang the note of C and wanted to create the harmony of E and G notes. Would it be possible to just manipulate the first voice or would he have to re record each line. Doing harmonies the "old school way" gives it a much more authentic feeling - they don't sound all synthetic and processed. It's the little nuances that give harmonies recorded the old school way that "human" element.
Prince's harmonies are one of the coolest things about his music. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

MOST recording artists record the harmonies one take per harmony. The new kids with their fancy-shmancy lip-sync-on-live-tv (to the wrong song) and pro-tools recording devices are ruining it for the hard working singers out there.
No device will sound as good as doing the harmonies individually. It may sound cleaner and tighter, but it wont sound as full. It's the little differences between each take that makes the listener go, "oh snap that's some fierce interwoven harmonies". Just my opinion... The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
